Very sorry to say that I had to say goodbye to my darling girl Tessa yesterday evening (this was her enjoying a bit of sunshine on Monday). She lived a very long, very loved life, and had a lovely peaceful death surrounded by her family. She was the best girl.

First time I’ve had to run out and get the washing in because of the RAIN in ages.
Academics and scoleres are not gate-keeperes. Thei will talke to you about their topiques. For dayes. Thei will sende lynkes. Thei will order bookes. Thys ys why thei lyve. Thei are the route bitwene past knowledge and future knowledge.
It flew away before I could get a photo of it, but I saw a hummingbird hawkmoth browsing on the jasmine in my garden, and everything was right with the world for a moment #TinyJoys
You know, when I am unable to get off the sofa, feeling both crushingly bored and horrifically overwhelmed, my flat is a tip and I've several unmet deadlines, I often just think: 'is this a neurodevelopmental disorder or a social construct' and immediately feel better.
there are plenty of questions we might ask about the diagnostic parameters of ADHD, and the changing interpretation of them, and of the thresholds for medicating children, and the way withdrawal of other services pushes people into labels, but this question is both damaging and stupid
They’re right and they should say it, it’s a crap tomb.
Found this tomb somewhat disappointing.
This is disgusting Abolish the Home Office
Monique Hawkins, acting chief executive of the3million, said the impact of the Home Office’s retrospective review was devastating for many. "People applied to the EU settlement scheme in good faith...by building their lives in the UK and putting down roots." www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
Once again attempting to crochet a sock that does not have more stitches at the foot end of the leg section than the cuff end. Can only assume I’m being sabotaged by yarn sprites or something.
YES YES I WOULD LIKE THE THUNDERY DOWNPOURS PLEASE
After a very brief respite from the heat, temperatures will spike across England and Wales again early next week with the mid 30s Celsius possible in the southeast on Monday🌡️ This hot and humid spell won't last long and may be accompanied by some scattered thundery downpours⛈️
I really need everyone to remember that the fossil fuel industry knew-knows exactly the climate hell we now inhabit, and are determined to make it FAR worse. That's because they have decided our lives are worth far less than their profits. We are not angry -or organised- enough.
Lammas blessings from Glastonbury Tor. It was a beautiful morning and lovely sunrise. Lammas means "loaf-mass," and marks the very first grain harvest of the year. Lammas/Lughnasadh A few photographs from this morning.
I realize the overlap of parents who use chatgpt for everything and people who see their kids as objects they acquired for the sake of appearances and don't really want to meaninfully engage with is a circle, but this is still so grim. They can't even chat with their kids on the morning school run?
Declare war on Egyptology by inventing an ending for the Tale of Wenamun, which I would actually love to see because of Wenamun’s hilariously un-self-aware big, “Don’t you know who I am?” energy (no).
ok let's do a discourse: what historical text absolutely needs the big budget film treatment, AND will create the need for a review by a scholar in a prestige publication? for medieval Europe, either: -- Song of Roland -- Book of Margery Kempe
still mad at this IT'S BOTH YOU DICHOTOMOUS FREAKS I have a harder time doing repetitive chores than others despite being able to perform at the 99th percentile and above on complex reasoning tasks because my brain is different the moral value assigned to "not doing chores" is a social construct
Channel 4 has announced documentary “The Great ADHD Myth?” It “seeks to determine whether ADHD is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct.”
Well, as Not A Classicist, I really enjoyed The Odyssey. Admittedly the Roskildefjord ships took me out of it a bit, and yeah, some of the dialogue was a bit ham-fisted, but there were only a couple of real clunkers. Anne Hathaway might actually be God. Truly epic in every sense.
things are as real as their impacts. if ADHD impacts lives (it does mine) and if it responds to treatment, pharmacological or otherwise (it does) and if life is far worse without that treatment (it is) then why the fuck would it matter whether ADHD is physiological or social?

aside from anything else, “i need ammunition, not a ride” is just the coolest fucking thing to say
Really important how most *Western* governments assumed the Ukrainian state would be steamrolled Most famously, the American ambassador offered Zelensky an escape route out of Kyiv and he said 'I need ammunition not a ride'
The Egyptian, Ugaritic, and Hittite sources all mention maritime raiders around this time as part of the collapse of Late Bronze Age empires. Egyptian and Hittite sources mention some of the same population groups including the Lukka, an Anatolian population that participated in raids on both.
There are two problems with waving off 'the sea peoples' as a nonexistent "debunked 19th century idea": the ancient sources and modern archaeology. Egyptian, Ugaritic, Hittite, Aramaic, and Canaanite sources all mention population groups that emerged in the Eastern Mediterranean around this time.
Film criticism aside, Emily Wilson's review of the Odyssey concerned me because it misrepresents Late Bronze Age history and reinforces an old Eurocentric pattern of dismissing the experiences--and reality--of ancient peoples other than the Greeks.
I strongly believe that one question we should be directing at more politicians is "What the fuck is the matter with you"
I remember arguing with someone - now an MP - about soup kitchens: I saw them as a response to need, whereas they saw them as enabling homelessness. Enabling homelessness. As though homeless people made themselves so as a lark.
Half the planet is having a massive fight about how to correctly interpret an Ancient Greek poem but go ahead, close some more humanities departments.
His grandson, Louis Mosley, is now CEO of Palantir UK.
#OtD 29 Jul 1962 fascist Oswald Mosley tried to march with the Union Movement in Manchester, UK. However, he was attacked by anti-fascists and had to be rescued by police. A Mosley speech later was drowned out by a crowd of anti-fascists. More info: www.patreon.com/posts/e37b-6...
First time I read about him raping several Thirty Seconds to Mars fans was around ~2005. Dozens of women with the exact same stories. I don't know what kind of dirt he has on the powerful to keep getting away with it, but my guess is that we're looking at a P. Diddy situation.

remembering when people were suggesting playing Hogwarts Legacy but also donating to trans charities and someone called that "carbon offsetting for transphobia"
Oohhh that is nasty stuff. These people are disgusting
