I took the old school Greyhound bus once in... 1988ish. My grandparents put my 14ish yr old brother and me on the bus for a several hour ride back home across KS in Aug. I was 6ish. It was so hot and I can still taste the cigarettes smoke and the diesel exhaust. I had a blast but it was disgusting.

Air travel is fine. There are just more opportunities to forego creature comforts in exchange for a lower fare, which is why most people don’t travel long distances by bus anymore.

I wish I found it hard to believe that you hired a very white lady to say Black voters are stupid instead of finding a Black writer to explain the litany of concerns they address when Black people choose their candidates.

It is absurd on its face that Black voters are more establishment than the campaign infrastructure of a bunch of white nepo babies that develops candidates based on a handful of metrics and includes a sprinkling of candidates of color in the mix.

The answer is simple, but not that. Black voters vote for candidates who have built relationships with the Black community... candidates who have some track record of working with the Black community and thus over whom they have some influence. Over colorblind or overtly anti-Black candidates.

I want to make this absolutely 1000% clear: 1) This is grooming: it is codifying that adults have access to girls' genitals. 2) It is aimed at destroying girls sports. Of course, many, many parents simply will not consent but the primary care system simply does not have capacity to do this.

I am appalled at how Lindsey Clancy's trial is being conducted. She was failed over and over again. And putting her trial on in the way that they* are and *televising* it is witch burning.

We had some of the more stringent COVID protocols in this country and we were still able to - go outside - go to the grocery store - get takeout whenever we wanted for however long we wanted. Masking was 100% social pressure. Other countries were allowing people out of their home for 15 min/day.

Appropriate air quotes because the most infuriating part about Americans debating "lockdown" is that it simply never happened. Having to pick up your Applebees and eat it on the sectional does not count. There wasn't even a brief moment where "everything" was closed. That's not real.

Lockdown people are so funny. They pull out their hair at the fact that schools were closed for five minutes, and then you ask them if they actually want to educate poor and minority children and they’re like of course not

It's absolutely insane we've somehow let the Covid recriminations debate become like "why didn't we reopen in person schools before there was a vaccine" and not "why did none of the trump guys go to jail for stealing PPE from New York hospitals in March 2020"

I just heard that the GOP think they can pull out a win in AZ gov race. I don't know but it seems weird to me to think that you'll flip a gov in a wave year when she got 40K more votes in an uncontested race than all of the Republicans combined in the competitive primary.

Unless we got to see an early draft, the rest of the report was so poorly done, I am not sure if it would matter what the missing chapter read. But it does lead one to question what the aim of someone bringing this back up now is.

Yes, children could have gone back to school much sooner if assholes would have stayed home when they could and worn masks when they couldn't. We did one of the longest, most stringest "lockdowns" in the country with middle schoolers. They handled it better many who had far less asked of them.

My take on COVID "lockdowns" (really, state and local decisions in the face of a killer plague) is that yes they were bad for children and this is an additional reason why it was morally repugnant when huge segments of the population refused to help with social distancing. Shame on you all.

We should close off Mt. Everest to climbers for 10-15 years. Humanity has turned a sacred mountain into the world's biggest outdoor toilet. During this time, all the locals should be getting global reparations plus equipment and money for cleaning up as much of the mountain as they safely can.

This. I am from a rural area that is >90% white and almost all of that white evangelical. The local and state leadership *love* to use the national Dems as a foil to blame all of the outcomes of their failed governance on Democrats elsewhere, and that really means Black people. +

so arguing that Ds fail in rural areas because they don't show up is largely confused. Ds fail in white rural areas because white voters find racism and white identity politics appealing and won't vote for a multi-racial democracy.

The weird part of this is it is really common hypothesis that ADHD brain functions were adaptive in historical contexts and dysfunctional in our context. Like how light skin and eyes are adaptation for low UV environments but sunburns and skin cancer aren't a "social construct" in high UV places.
