Hobbs Act: (18 U.S.C. § 1951) a United States federal law passed in 1946 makes it a crime to commit, attempt, or conspire to commit robbery or extortion. It is a major tool for prosecuting state and local officials who commit extortion, accept bribes while acting "under color of official right"

Y'all who, like me, remember that train wreck of a knitting video SciShow put out that had us science geek artists screaming at screens... Makes sense now, right? I wondered at the time if they used an LLM to write it because no frickin way did anyone who knits or crochets was a part of the script.

This is good advice for anyone. If a person or situation seems off leave. I once had a doctor's appointment and when he came in I could tell he was upset and agitated. Did I leave? No. Did I have to repeat a painful medical procedure because the first doctor fucked up? Yes. Be smarter than me.

Dear young adults,
You can leave.
If you don't like your doctor, walk out in the middle of your appointment.

Leave the party. End the date. Don't wait until the "polite time" to leave or endure because you think you'll make a scene.

You can go.

just said this on another post but it bears repeating: the thing about continuing to give money to any jk rowling properties or the nyt is not that they’re shitty about trans people, which they are. it is that both of these entities MATERIALLY CONTRIBUTE to the legal challenges to trans rights

Self, you will make yourself an Orthopedic appointment on Monday, okay? You won't put off addressing the two new pains because you are afraid he'll refer you to a colleague, right? Please? You can just refuse the referral out but he'll probably order your imaging and you should stop dodging it.

O’Neal helped purge me & all the other Black full-time staff columnists at the Post Opinion Section. I challenged his move to fire me in the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk killing. And he testified against me in June. We are expecting an arbitration ruling soon. Convenient time for him to quit.

New: Washington Post Opinion editor Adam O’Neal is leaving, he announced in an internal memo Friday

“Should Max Miller resign?” Jim Jordan: “He’s a good man. I’m helping him get re-elected.” Kasie: “He’s accused of throwing boiling water on his ex, held a gun to her head, fractured their daughter’s collarbone…”🤔 Jordan: *stammers helplessly as she plays his Platner comments*

13. Hence our dismal conclusion: rather than finding that LLMs free us to do a better job of what we were doing before they came along, they shift scientific incentives (and the playing field of academic competition) in ways that compel us to do more and more, faster and faster, less and less well.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

The Trump admin’s case against Davey Hearn should have never been brought. Its dismissal today does not erase the abuse of government power in arresting and charging a patriotic American who did nothing wrong. The administration owes Mr. Hearn an apology.
