"I’m Nobody! Who are you? Are you – Nobody – too? Then there’s a pair of us! Don't tell! they'd advertise – you know!" Emily Dickinson I believe in Non-Violence. Likes and re-posted do not necessarily mean agreement.
Congratulations to Minnesota labor unions and powerful grassroots orgs for scaring the crap out of our administration.
A jaw-dropping report of weaponized political surveillance. The government grabbed years of sensitive records from major progressive groups and unions, baselessly claiming they were needed to address threats of "domestic terrorism" It's a near perfect mirror of the J Edgar Hoover COINTELPRO abuse
U.S. Investigated Left-Leaning Groups During Minnesota’s Immigration Crackdown
The government conducted expansive surveillance, infiltrated group chats and obtained financial records of organizations never accused of crimes.

Thomson Reuters, which owns news agency Reuters, has signed a $125M deal giving ICE access to its databases of personal data. USA Today has partnered with Palantir to gain "actionable intelligence" on its audiences. The media should be opponents of Trump's police state — not collaborators.
I do not doubt that the judge said it was a 15 minute break.... Am I missing the resumption, or is everyone still waiting?
NEW: We are on a 15 minute recess. As predicted, Andrew Block - who joined the case yesterday - is not prepared to discuss the issues the judge asked DOJ to be prepared to discuss. It's not going well for DOJ today. Their argument is "you have to trust us, bro. We're the DOJ."
That was purposeful and the court should see through that. He cannot claim ignorance since he represents the entire DOJ. Whoever assigned him to the case should also be subject to sanctions! Really, really expensive sanctions $$,$$$
... whether your redactions are appropriate? DOJ: again, one of the difficulties i'm having is because of preliminary injunction posturing, at this stage, DOJ has given its rationale. We're usually afforded the presumption of regularity. Or give us a clear clean order to assess. 12/
JUDGE: Have any other hand written notes been published? DOJ: I don't think so. Not with regard to the 302s. JUDGE: So what's the answer? DOJ: They're duplicative documents. JUDGE: How can the court know that? 6/
DOJ lawyer Andrew Block, who was just added to the Phang Epstein case *yesterday*, erred when he told the court there were no handwritten notes released.
DOJ’s statement isn’t true. FBI 302 reports and corresponding handwritten notes were produced in the Epstein files. Below is one example. So why did DOJ produce handwritten notes for certain 302s and not others - like the victim who made accusations against Trump?
@muellershewrote.com Best Judge Sullivan line thus far: 'I issued that order, do you want me to issue it again and say, I really mean it this time?'

JUDGE: You raise an interesting point. I thought about brining DOJ in in sealed proceedings, but the public has a right to know what the hell is going on with this case. The victims deserve to know. The public deserves to know. 30/
So do me a favor. Don’t look at the folks working hard right now and think: -They must really enjoy it. (They probably don’t; they’re just trying to stop fascism) -They must have a lot of free time that I do not. (ha ha) -They must not have kids. (Incorrect) -They should be doing even more!

Twitter at its heyday was smaller than other social networks, but had outsized influence because it functioned like a hub-and-spoke clearinghouse for discourse. Bluesky, by its users and not styfling links, similarly punches above its weight. If not, no one off Bluesky would complain about Bluesky.
Re: Bluesky influence. I just filed an essay that discusses the Reconstruction Papers published by @liberalcurrents.com. I learned about it via Bluesky. I connected with @adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com over Bluesky. Now I'm going to put it in the local paper where non-Blueskiers will read it (maybe)
3. There was no mention of the error rate of these cameras or the innocent lives that were disrupted due to incorrect matches. These are well documented with innocent grandmothers being incarcerated due to incorrect matching of plates.
One of Sagal’s Laws of Human Behavior: the difficulty of admitting an error rises proportionately with the severity of that error.
CNBC: Do you regret voting for RFK Jr? BILL CASSIDY: If you want to tell me that somebody didn't tell me the truth, and I should've seen in the future they were not gonna tell the truth, you can say, 'Bill you should've seen into the future'

The Department of Justice assailed the D.C. Council this week, criticizing lawmakers for “callousness” and “impotent theatrics” over a letter demanding that states withdraw their National Guard troops from the city: www.notus.org/metro/dc-cou...

Administration officials say troops have contributed to historic drops in crime, but local officials contest that claim.

Intended or not, this logic feeds directly into the authoritarian party’s constant claims that people in places like Madison are not real members of the Herrenvolk & don’t deserve to have their votes count.
They want to give these lying sleazebags-who pull guns on American citizens completely without justification and far too often shoot them-gloves that send an electric shock through people to disable them This will wind up with more dead Americans, literally at the hands of ICE
Video of an ICE agent pulling a gun on a wife and mother, who is a US citizen born and raised in the area, near Bailey's Crossroads in Northern Virginia yesterday. Chillingly, they claimed she “almost ran them over” until she told them she had video proving that was a lie.
the threads/bluesky debate is unserious because one website is an authoritarian, MAGA-aligned surveillance apparatus and censor which buries links to most legit news and publishers. meanwhile, the other website is obnoxious sometimes. this really isn’t difficult
seriously. most social media data that meta publishes are wildly exaggerated just like X. same with threads. why? ad sales
It’s only one story, but Strib memory-holing Demuth inviting ICE in when she coordinated with Nick Shirley to hype a casus belli should not go unmentioned.
The White House normally gets $2.5 million a year for maintenance. Trump’s team has allocated $875 million. That’s 350 years’ worth of the usual budget spent by a single administration.
The Trump admin says it's saving migrant children from trafficking. But what they don't tell you is that once ICE finds a kid, they put that kid into deportation proceedings, and if they turn 18, they get thrown into an ICE jail. Oh, and they made it MUCH harder for trafficking victims to get visas.
New in PN: Stephen Miller's secret campaign against helpless kids "Miller is making his dreams come true: accelerating the arrest and removal of thousands of unaccompanied immigrant kids. This is a scene taking place out of public view across the country, impacting 24,000 children."
My only comment about Woke 1 vs Woke 2 is that neither of these things is real &, for the thousandth time, we don’t have to frame <every topic in American politics> on the terms of the far right authoritarian party & right-wing pundits. Other, more serious choices are readily available:
