Seriously—the right-tilting commentariat that is always ready to “teach Dems a lesson” can’t figure out the reconfigured politics of the present

It’s bad. Ukraine is still effectively hitting both inside Russia and occupied Crimea almost daily, but Putin (as usual) is targeting population centers instead of legitimate military targets.
Why isn’t this bigger news? Remember when that military helicopter took down a commercial plane? Or the countless military plane crashes we’ve seen over the last year and a half? Pentagon Seemingly Caused a Medevac Plane to Crash, Killing Everyone Onboard truthout.org/articles/pen...

Former DHS Sec. Kristi Noem and Corey Lewandowski dining at Grocer's Table in Wayzata. The sheer audacity. You don't get to brunch in the community you terrorized with Operation Metro Surge's mass deportation raids—not after smearing locals like Renée Good and Alex Pretti as "domestic terrorists".
But if you suggest putting every Kalshi exec on an ice floe so we can bet on which one the polar bears will eat last then suddenly everybody starts going on about morals and stuff.
Both Stevens and McMorrow were quick to throw their support behind El-Sayed. That shows that Dems can disagree and then still come together to do what is best for their constituents. NYT and Politico must be imploding because they can't do a Dems in Disarray story today.
Nearly every one of El-Sayed's issue positions is supported by a majority. In fact, his stands are the center of American politics today. Saying he is far left/left wing is just so old. The center of American politics has moved over the last 30 years, and El-Sayed's position are center now.
El-Sayed: "Once a government agency like ICE is told it has impunity to do the worst things and violate the highest law of the land, which is the Constitution itself, I don't think you can reform or retrain. I think we need to start from scratch ... I think we need to abolish it."

The fact that the Democratic senators are agreeing to a continuing resolution until Dec 11th with NO compromises for them is absolute political malpractice and head scratching. Why not even try to ban like…. The arch? Anything!
Additional commentary on that 1997 NR masthead, the heyday of “responsible conservatism.” bsky.app/profile/seth...
Looking at this NR masthead from 1997 and I notice that not only is Dinesh on it, but the top editor is currently shilling for Orban in Hungary, the 2nd guy heads up the white nationalist org VDare, and then there's Mark Levin (lol), eugenicist Ernest van den Haag, & segregationist Kilpatrick.
Jon Husted looked this mother in the eye, and promised he wouldn't vote to cut her daughter's health care. One week later, that's exactly what he did.

Discovery is a wonderful part of the legal process
Donald Trump is racing to stop the BBC from getting his financial records. After the network demanded access to his records to determine whether he actually suffered the billions in damages he claims, Trump’s lawyers are now trying to block that evidence from being turned over.
correct are you serious about beating fascism or not? get in, we’re beating them in november you can be mad, you can be disappointed, but at the end of the day having someone with D in any and all seats is better than having someone with an R in them
I meant to post this last night but if you’re mad about any of the primary results you got 24 hours to bleed, try not to say anything you’ll regret in 48, and then it’s Blue No Matter Who.
The fact that the armed drone was discovered near a Ukrainian aircraft operating at Leipzig Airport in Germany under NATO's Strategic Airlift International Solution programme means that this was an attack on NATO. The way in which NATO responds will determine whether the Russians will try again.

Yep. And a big part of the GOP's problem right now is that it's been remade as an explicitly, exclusively Trumpist party. The Dems are having some growing pains with the rise of the progressive left, but the party can accommodate it. The GOP has no way to accommodate anti-Trumpism.
In order for one party to fall about there needs to start to become enough of an alternative to let his voters flee too permanently. Independent runs start this process
The decisive failure of GOP referenda in Kansas Amendment 1 and Missouri Amendment 4 yesterday is yet another reminder of something I've been saying for a while: Voters, even Republican voters, now regularly despise and repudiate GOP attempts to use them to destroy democracy.

The revealing part isn’t that they know the answers. Of course they do. It’s that they’re already practicing how to bend plain facts around Trump’s sensitivities before receiving lifetime appointments. Imagine what that instinct looks like once they’re on the bench.
💙💛 A video grab from a video footage by News5 from August 5, 2026 the nose of Ukrainian "Antonov" plane at German airport Leipzig-Halle in Schkeuditz, eastern Germany. German police deployed a bomb disposal robot at the airport after a drone was found near a Ukrainian-flagged cargo plane overnight.

In a country with a president who is such a destructive sore loser, politicians who are both helpful and gracious in defeat is a greatly appreciated novelty.
Let’s level set. MICHIGAN is a must-win if we want to flip the Senate. A word caution: This race was tighter than many predicted. El-Sayed needs Stevens supporters in the general, so it’s not smart strategy to keep them angry. Welcome them. Focus on issues. Time is short, so healing must be quick
