Democrats (especielly in the past few years) have really molded into their DNA that if they simply "get rid of the bad guy, everything will be okay and be good again", whether it's in reference to Trump or Netenyahu. They cannot comprehend that an entire system might just be broken beyond repair.

Genuine question, if this came to pass would there be any historical precedent for this? Has an Empire ever unilaterally attacked a peripheral foe and in so doing so drastically strengthened them?
Scott Horton@robertscotthorton.bsky.social · 9h agoThe proposed deal now under discussion would give Iran a 5-7% toll for traffic through Hormuz, making the war a massive victory for the Iranians and insuring them a long-term dominant position in the Gulf. It would reflect pretty much an unconditional surrender by Trump to Tehran.
Think of Sir Keir black-clad in front of a billowing sixty foot union flag, talking about his government’s awesome plan to win over Tories and the far right with historically remarkable National Front migration crackdowns. What, is this worse than that? Or is it the same shit, but even dumber.

This is what happens if we do nothing but reward the very worst and nastiest behaviour, and we have done little but that for a very long time.
There is IMO no way out of this without basically firing everyone and replacing them with new hires straight out of education. And that’s not going to happen, so we are looking at *at least* another ten years of this apeshit derangement. At least ten years, just to wash off the worst.
It was all supposed to snap back to normal after elections in 2019, then 2024. But the politics they created are so insane - so utterly divorced from reality, requiring so much effort just to keep the bullshit straight in their heads - that it has created a new, awesomely horrible and scary normal.
I don’t blame the public for this: most people will be looking at this slack jawed wondering what the fuck is going on. And the answer is: the British media/political class has driven itself insane trying to reconcile a decade of its own nonsensical, contradictory, idiotic bullshit.
Tangent to this on why I like Guardian flags old articles: Not only does it make for great cold takes (see below ⤵️), it seems genuinely designed to inform readers. A simple sentence, does the math of converting publication date to a relative article 'age', and highlighted in yellow. I like it.
