Thanks to everyone surfacing this in my skyline I went in and looked for the setting, couldn't find it, reloaded Libby and there it was! Glad to be able to turn this off, even if publishers and authors are maybe being dishonest little shits about it. It's better than nothing.

THE CREEPENING OF DOGWOOD HOUSE is just right for your and your kids' Halloween reading lists. In addition to hoodoo, there is discussion of grief, starting over, and finding new family. Not to mention things to learn about art, architecture, and DIY. #booksky

A silver Walter Award seal and a red Bram Stoker Award seal are in the bottom right of the cover. The epigraph page for The Creepening. Quotes: "The place in which I'll fit will not exist until I make it." James Baldwin

"Hair is the first thing. And teeth the second. Hair and teeth. A man got those two things, he's got it all." James BrownStarred Kirkus review of The Creepening. “Royce’s latest offers readers a strong, character-centered, hoodoo-infused narrative that’s a tribute to the beauty of Black hair. A thrilling, hair-raising story with strong cultural roots and a well-developed sense of place. Themes of family, heritage, and grief provide anchors for the creepy mystery.”
