This all starts with a secret handshake between writers and yard workers, a mutual understanding that if writers don't leave cans behind, and they don't touch the identifying numbers on the cars, then there's largely no harm. Writers will go to meticulous lengths to respect the latter rule.

I wouldn't normally do this (she lied) but it's album drop day, which means everyone's first priority is inflating my ego by making numbers go up
I can't actually recommend signing into your bsky account through this site to vote for this however if you don't mind doing that, it would be very funny if I made the list
Been trying hard to get people to sign up for my monthly zine club. And it’s just over the top how bad social media has gotten. We’re spoiled here. It’s the only spot that isn’t dominated by astroturfed culture war “debate” where it’s 90% bots screaming about trans people and Muslims.
Chronic pain (and illness) patients experience this as a constant stream of “oh no, how awful, have you tried physical therapy/marijuana/ibuprofen”? There are two reasons this sucks. One: of course we have tried these things. Two: the exhaustion of dealing with this keeps us from talking about it.
I hope ppl realize that when someone says "This is the situation" and doesn't ask for advice that A) they're not asking for advice, so don't offer any, but also B) when you offer really basic advice it's fucking insulting because do you think the person involved has never considered anything before?
This is why most faculty cannot make sense of the 'woke' University trope. Our lived experiences bear little resemblance to it. This is far closer to the norm.
UW-Madison professor engages in multiple sexual relationships with students, disparages another over their sexual orientation and appearance, creates hostile environment, and department leadership covers it all up. And in true “pass the trash” fashion, moves on to ASU once forced to resign.
happy bandcamp friday I have a new album you should listen to and/or purchase it

Autogynophilia - Collected Gameboy Works 2013-2026, by Hypnogram
36 track album

this Friday, I'm planning to drop a release of sketches, demos, b-sides, compilation tracks, and otherwise unheard Gameboy music from the last five years or so. treating this as a farewell to the Hypnogram moniker for the foreseeable future as I embrace this new chapter in my life.
Another thing people have been doing is mutual aid, buying an ad slot for autistic small businesses, artists or organisations that we are quietly matchmaking and offering the generously donated slot to good fits. This is the most wholesome community and not in a neurotypical “n’aaaaaaw” way.
We are slowly but surely covering the episodes of Autistic People Oversharing sponsorship. If you’d like to make the next season of the show happen, for £50, we will gush about your pet or pets for a whole 1-minute ad segment. Email Advertising at thedailytism dot com for details!
Nice to have a citation for the stuff we all sort of assume to be true but question if it's just our own biases making it look that way
This is demonstrably, measurably improving the health of the people who live there. Most notably, it increases the respiratory *& cognitive* health of children. They literally do better in school. If this country really gave a shit about children, this would be at the top of the public-policy list.

Once again the Gen Z staffer at my publisher says it in ways I literally could not. Because I don't know those idioms. But I understand them enough to know that this is a good thing.
The Gen Z staffer said we should post this so we are posting it because they know the Internets We know the stories and this is a very good story by @marissalingen.bsky.social Behold: hornedlarkpress.com/product/a-du...

A deeply reported and very important story from my old city desk colleague Lukas Alpert. The 9/11 toll has yet to be fully known, and Lukas reminds us of the ppl still affected.
The picture most people have of a 9/11 victim does not include a growing group: the people who lived or worked near the World Trade Center — pushed to return to normal after the attack — who have since been diagnosed with serious illness.
Hey for no particular reason just a reminder that if your hood/"gas mask" doesn't have one way valves in it and no shorter alternative air paths, if you hook a bubbler bottle into it you're more than likely just trapping the CO2 in the tubes and you're gonna kill yourself.
You want air from the bubblers to go into your mask, be TRAPPED by one way valves, and your exhale going out another (reversed) one way valve going out. If you just have a mask that has two open holes and nothing else, you're just pushing your CO2 back into your mask. You're not getting fresh air.
The themes of #iHunt turned the very basic moment in a lot of ttrpg's of 'what do we do with our dead friends cut of the loot' into a tense 30-45 minute chunk of roleplay as one by one the surviving pc's decided to send it to his younger brother, absolutely killer game
Fuck you're welcome to buy MY game! #iHunt is such a huge piece of work for just two people. We put so many pages into that game. And pretty much everyone that follows me would have fun just reading it, not even necessarily playing. It's a game about poverty. But from the poor POV.

said it before on here but one of the bleakest moments of my 2020s was asking abled cishet white guys “when was the last time someone told you ‘no’ about something in a way you had to respect” & they all groused about masking, vaccines, or a flavor of what used to be called ‘political correctness.’
I do think “every rich person went insane during covid because it was the first time they’ve been inconvenienced in decades” felt a little reductive at first but damn if isn’t more and more compelling as the years drag on
"jana, I would be more likely to give you money if you were less annoying about self-promotion" no you wouldn't
but there was a key piece of context missing. and it *completely changed* the meaning of his actions you have to understand why you're doing things. you have to know where the scrub brush comes from.
