Writer of comics and books for kids. Professor of Children's Literature. STRIKERS out from Lerner Books/Graphic Universe now.

One of the best things about being the kind of comics person who can easily fall down a research hole to The Old Internet is that sometimes when you least expect it, you stumble upon a random, gut-bustingly funny Tom Spurgeon comment on a blog post.

Derf knows what he's talking about. I want to add that this was NEVER about Walden doing anything wrong. The issue is that there's only one major work of research on the subject, and that was something for agents, editors, and publishers to deal with before publication.

I’m ready to weigh in on the CHARITY & SYLVIA controversy. I’ve read both books and compared & contrasted them, and their sources. Is Tillie Walden’s book a rip off of Rachel Hope Cleves’ book, as the professor claims? No. It is not. #TillieWalden #graphicnovels buttondown.com/thene/archiv...

WNBA players union leadership released a statement, I suggest everyone read it. This is the message of united union leaders: hate will not be tolerated and trans inclusion IS protecting women’s rights to play sports This is excellently crafted. Proud of Nneka, Phee and the rest of WNBPA leaders

 MESSAGE FROM
WNBPA PLAYER LEADERSHIP
To everyone who loves this game: The WNBPA represents 200+ individual people with different lived experiences, cultures, lifestyles, and opinions.
We embrace justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Those are the values that unite this Union and allow it to protect women's sports while creating transformational change.
Hate, abuse, and demonization of any person or group of people, including transgender people, only fuel fear, division, and harm. We will continue to have hard conversations. But we will not be used as political pawns.
Support the Players. Support the Fans. At games, notify security if you witness hateful, violent, or abusive behavior. Online, report abusive posts and drown out the bots and bad actors. At home, tell your elected officials to strengthen Title IX.

Still catching up. So someone screencapped an image from a 20-something instagram gal (who loves Jordan Peterson and has never worked in publishing) using some hand-wringing story from the NY Times from like 4 months ago to stir the pot about men not reading, and everyone on this site fell for it?

Read the sentence “I believe the problem is that we have lost our capacity to experience pleasure” [citation needed], and I’m officially done with the bullshit machine for a while.

I understand in the abstract that Chris Eigeman has starred in many things that are not Whit Stillman movies, but seeing him at random while flipping channels always brings cognitive dissonance.

I don’t agree with 90% of the “conventional wisdom“ takes on progressive social media users (YA people are mostly nice, cancel culture barely exists), but it is true that legions of randos act like any ethical position they came to in private should basically be enforced w the death penalty. 1/2

Post nicht verfügbar.

I’m biased ‘cuz this is how I spent a decade of my life & I miss it (not enough to go back, haha, but still)… But you can’t convince me that comics isn’t in much worse shape without a real press. Current sales are driven by more speculation than an expanding audience & that’s Bad, Actually.
