It's very telling how every word a Black or Muslim or Brown candidate like Darializa Avila Chevalier or Abdul El-Sayed or Zohran Mamdani or Cori Bush says is scrutinized, turned around, overanalyzed, and endlessly debated by the same people who see Elon Musk *literally sieg heil* and shrug.

I get that it's hard for younger folks to grasp how immediately, completely insane 9/11 made this country, so I'll just point out that George Bush, a widely despised clown, pulled 90% approval for doing absolutely nothing- liberals would attack you for suggesting he was less than infallible

wiki entry noting George W Bush's record 90% approval rating following 9/11

WaPo making same claim that’s been disproven again & again. Who do they imagine these people are, willing to pay the price of abandoning home, friends, lives they’ve built. “Sorry, kids, we’re leaving the only home you’ve ever known & all our friends to pay 7% state tax instead of 8%.”

i think national dems should pay careful attention to the mayor of new york's willingness to think creatively and act swiftly to make big changes using the full scope of executive authority he has unique power to wield, and i think it's the kind of thing people are looking for in a president

also isn't it endangering private citizens that the president, his cabinet, and agencies he commandeered are drawing attention to private citizens on social media? it's incredibly creepy/unsettling and it's so weird this goes undiscussed

It really is amazing that Trump keeps pushing to throw some random guy who didn't seem to commit any crime into prison for a decade and this isn't being treated like a huge scandal.

"Women accounted for 100 percent of the decline in the labor force in July, according to a National Women’s Law Center analysis of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’s latest dismal jobs report. Overall, the economy lost 23,000 jobs in July: Women lost 32,000 jobs, while men gained 9,000."

Trump’s Terrible July Jobs Numbers Only Hurt Women

And the number of women who have left the workforce since January is more than double the number of men.

The fact that US laobr force participation rate has dropped to the lowest level in 50 years - which most seem to attribute to “people giving up on getting another job” - may also help explain why so many people feel bad about the economy.

Job seekers giving up: Labor force participation rate falls to lowest in 50 years, outside of Covid era

A drop in the unemployment rate helped provide some upside to what was an otherwise downbeat jobs report — but it was for all the wrong reasons.

we had the american model of tv (one million episodes a season with some crap inevitably ending up in there) and we had a british model of tv (3 episodes a season but each one's pretty good) and somehow streaming ended up with the worst of both parts (3 dogwater eps in an 8 episode season)

i feel like more people need to know that the “men don’t read books anymore” blogger also posted one of the vilest transphobic rants about trans boys i’ve ever read. she says that hrt for trans teen boys is worse than anorexia. as with all gateway clickbait there is something NASTY under there

I get that the Trump White House has decided that Congress is a vestigial organ, but I think there should be more coverage of the fact that Brendan Carr just up and said "yes, Congress put a 39% cap on media ownership, but I think I can ignore it for reasons."

We are on the verge of a climatic upheaval greater than any of us can imagine. Global leaders and media aren't paying attention. They are focused on a series of self-inflicted crises that have left us dangerously vulnerable and totally unprepared. My latest. charlieangus.substack.com/p/what-keeps...

In Maine, people never lose the right to vote because of a felony conviction, even while they’re incarcerated. Many incarcerated people are keen to vote in this year's election for governor, which could have big ramifications for criminal justice.

Maine Prisoners Organize to Protect Their Rare Right to Vote - Bolts

Maine is one of the only places in the country where prisoners keep their right to vote. But logistical barriers to voting still contribute to their larger exclusion from the political process.

I am speaking for just myself here but I think one reason it is obvious that whatever I say here about the Israeli government isn’t motivated by anti-Semitism is clearly I’d feel this annoyed if Norway kept doing this

Trump now claims to have obtained OVER $20 TRILLION in foreign investment (the entire GDP of the US is barely $30 trillion, so this is nonsense)

Trump takes a break from fear-mongering about communism to brag about seizing the means of production: "We had a problem with Intel. And we settled the problem. They gave us 10% of the company. That was worth $12 billion."

It sometimes feels like we're living in a ridiculously exaggerated folk tale with wildly implausible villains. For example, as the president takes billions for himself and his family and *coats his things in gold,* the soldiers fighting his war can't get toothpaste, hot water, or a clean toilet.
