Why do global environmental institutions multiply and persist even when they seem unable to address biodiversity loss and environmental governance failures effectively? Our new OA article with @jacquelinebest.bsky.social in @risjnl.bsky.social tries to answer this question. 1/7 cup.org/4hZNlcX

Hi bsky people - if you care about how the EU seeks to fund all things "social-ecological transformation", which institutional architecture has emerged out of it, and why it is both contested and an unrealized promise: please have a look at our special issue on the politics of sustainable finance 👇

🌱🪙 In their introduction to the Special Issue "Puzzling, powering, profiting: The politics of sustainable finance in Europe", editors @danmertens.bsky.social and @nataschavanderzwan.bsky.social define EU sustainable finance & outline how best to analyse it 💡 🔗 www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

With transnational fin governance institutions rolling back their climate work, it's really alarming to see that all we have is voluntary efforts and capacity building from the likes of the NGFS. Simply not enough to coordinate decarbonization: greencentralbanking.com/2025/07/18/g...

G20 watchdog pauses climate change work amid member division

The Financial Stability Board has paused further work on climate change risk amid division as the US pulls back from green policies.

With the flood of bad news, it can be hard to get perspective on just how much damage Trump is doing. So we made a chart to get across Trump's whole-of-government approach to wrecking the climate: at least 82 actions from 20 different agencies in 52 days. 🎁 link: www.bloomberg.com/opinion/feat...

A week prior to Trump's inauguration the Federal Reserve quit the Network for Greening the Financial System, the NGFS. I wrote about what the NGFS is and what they promote within the green central banking debates for PPE Sydney.

Federal Insurance Office, part of the US Treasury, has also left the NGFS. Their statement is more acerbic in its wording compared to the Fed's, mentioning how the NGFS' roles are different than other int'l technical intitiatives (it isn't!) and their work on monetary policy is transgressing.

In light of the Fed's resignation from the NGFS, you can see here that they were never that much interested to begin with. I'm glad this amazing tool by @jdeyris.bsky.social is finally public for all to use!

A graph showing mentions of climate change, carbon, and green finance in the Federal Reserve's communication from 1995 until 2025. The graph shows four mentions of the said subjects between 1995-2005 and increasing mentions 2019 onward.
