LPE Blog@lpeblog.bsky.social · 4mo agoToday, @ksabeelrahman.bsky.social argues that legislative primacy offers an attractive long-term vision for democracy. To reach that goal, however, we need to use every tool available to address the underlying configurations of economic and political power that enabled the current crisis.
Just to add to this really excellent piece, in searching for institutional lessons from past moments of possibility, Reconstruction is far more useful than either the New Deal, when Congress was under segregationists' thumb, or the 1960s and the Warren Court's fleeting promise.

Thread: A while back I asked people how we should think about DOGE as something other than a government commission, since I think we need a better nomenclature and reference points. This offers some good insights.

In both cases they had “backlash coalitions” against taxation
