A year ago today at the Broadview ICE facility. Greg Bovino led agents from ICE, Bureau of Prisons, Border Patrol, and ATF as they pushed protesters and press back from the gate they had erected outside of the facility. Chemical munitions were deployed, and detainments were made.

Among the ICE abductions reported yesterday was a ~7:20 a.m. incident in Chicago's West Englewood neighborhood. Per video shared online, ICE agents surrounded a car with a child in it, smashed the window and took the man in the driver's seat, as the woman next to him cried and prayed.

9/25+26/26 Chicagoland ICE activity update: Chicagoland rapid responders didn't report any ICE abductions in the area today; the 1-year anniversary of the protest that led to the "Broadview Six" case. Yesterday was heavy. At least 4 people, maybe more, reported detained across the city & suburbs.

What I wanted to share was their passage on how they navigated those deeply distressing attacks on their humanity and demands for oversimplifying the deeply challenging process of building community amongst those who have been cast out of theirs.

How Have You Navigated Building Solidarity in the Face of Those Challenges? Within the collective, we’ve turned toward each other, affirming that we know who each other is. With our extended community and collaborators, we’ve started hosting a yearly weekend-long retreat here, where we share everything we’ve accomplished over the last year and enjoy a big feast and celebration. And with people outside our more immediate circles, we build solidarity in many different ways, with many types of people. Some of us run a program that gets money to incarcerated queer and trans folks, as well as emotional support, legal help, and care when they are sick. Some of us connect immigrants in our community with free driving lessons so they can get their licenses. Some of us have been involved in nonviolent disobedience defending the sovereignty of Indigenous land. We also build community with people whose stated values might be in conflict with ours, like with the conservative neighbors who live on our street. We got wind, for example, of the fact that the neighborhood we live in used to have an annual block party that everyone loved, but it hadn’t happened in years. So this year, some of us met with a group of neighbors and organized a block party with them. When the day came, the weather was awful, so we redirected the party into our house, had one of our friends’ Klezmer bands play in the living room, and people who would never have spent time socially spent hours together dancing. Since then, the vibe in the neighborhood has changed, people smile and slow down and ask if we want rides when they pass us walking. We try to practice solidarity across the board. If we want the whole entire system we live under to change, we’re going to need alliances everywhere.5

HUGE: Autozone workers just won the first ever union at the company. Despite Autozone spending an estimated $210,696 and using every tactic in the book to stop just 11 workers from forming a union, the small shop in New York chose to unionize today. These workers will now join the @uaw.org.

A lot of universities will be facing big deficits and looking to cure what ails them. I just want them to be thoughtful about it.

Rumors about “rigged elections" are now a fixture of U.S. elections, leading to diminished trust in election results & democracy (broadly). These rumors can sometimes be hard to debunk, esp. in their early stages. Our UW team has identified the 6 common ways that election integrity rumors mislead:
