Aside from its many other problems, the idea Fauci was America's power-abusing covid dictator is somewhat complicated by the fact that he never had the power to do the things they're mad about. His recommendations bound nobody and were not particularly rigorously followed by the actual policymakers.

Was there ever a follow up on Gisele Attias Bonnouvrier and who they are and were involved in? Students did well defending their rights. School and district administrators did poorly - they were managers of the status quo rather than leaders. We need true leaders in education.

Ugh. Supreme Court rules in Slaughter, 6-3 that Trump can fire people from the FTC. But in Cook, Court rules 5-4 that Trump cannot fire everybody from the Fed. Roberts writes both majority opinions There's no real difference between the FTC and the FED other than Roberts likes the Fed.

I am enraged and sad at the sale of @sciam.bsky.social, which caused the layoffs of many excellent journalists including my editor @jfischman.bsky.social. Example of the rightward shift in America - democratic socialist is now what used to be called a social democrat in the 1980s. The reformist left is now the far left and what had been the far left, who opposed the USSR/China and advocated for democratic socialism, are all but forgotten.
