Concur with ASV. #ChemChat #ChemSky an example of a modern logo that fits the field.
ASV stands in support of Dr. Tony Fauci and his long career advancing the health of Americans and protecting them from the worst infectious diseases.
I recently read Quay's new book. Now he's reportedly been tapped to lead NIAID. Not only is his book full what are plainly lies, it also reflects a person who can't keep tabs on reality. www.politico.com/news/2026/08...
Based on its analysis, I asked ChatGPT to create a new logo. Evidently, it thinks we are joining the chemistry branch of the rebel alliance.
I asked ChatGPT what the new ACS logo looks like. Its response: a stylized globe crossed with a soccer-ball pattern a camera aperture app a volleyball viewed head-on something from a fintech or AI company #chemsky #chemchat
Asked ChatGPT if the ACS logo looked AI generated: "possibly AI-assisted in the concept-development stage, and aesthetically similar to generic AI logo output." (1/3) #ChemSky #ChemChat
ChatGPT added about the new ACS logo, "It is far less recognizably 'chemistry' than the old phoenix-and-retort emblem." "The strongest impression is probably 'global technology organization', rather than chemistry specifically." I have to say, I concur with ChatGPT. #chemsky #chemchat

Based on the new logo, ACS is now an iTranslator knock-off.
Aside from its many other problems, the idea Fauci was America's power-abusing covid dictator is somewhat complicated by the fact that he never had the power to do the things they're mad about. His recommendations bound nobody and were not particularly rigorously followed by the actual policymakers.
And what percentage incorrectly state FADH2 is a product of the cycle? #ChemChat #ChemSky #Biochemistry #Biochem #Metabolism
This story is crazy. It would appear Trump admin officials rigged their nationally televised high school civics contest to keep a young man from a Sikh family out of the finalists. www.notus.org/national/ame...
Suspicion and Doubt at the National Civics Contest
America’s finest young scholars competed to mark their country's birthday. It led to a disputed finish in the age of mistrust.

Was there ever a follow up on Gisele Attias Bonnouvrier and who they are and were involved in? Students did well defending their rights. School and district administrators did poorly - they were managers of the status quo rather than leaders. We need true leaders in education.
A high school journalist from the award-winning Redwood Bark uncovered his Marin County community's connections in the Epstein files, prompting legal threats from a named individual and pressure from school administrators—but the student paper stood its ground.
Gonna re-up this while the search is open. Come join us! We’re a great place for undergraduate research and education, have outstanding students, and Charleston is a beautiful place to live!
Come join us! The CofC Dept. of Chemistry and Biochemistry is looking for a tenure-track assistant prof. in organic chemistry. We’re great place for undergraduate research, with superb facilities, great instrumentation for a PUI, and oustanding students! #chemsky jobs.cofc.edu/postings/18244

"[W]e estimate that incorporating standardized test scores in our setting would result in admitting students who perform, on average, only 0.03 grade points better."
Standardized test scores improve predictions of academic performance but matter relatively less for admissions decisions, since few applicants are near the decision threshold, from Johann D. Gaebler, Calvin Isley, Christopher Avery, and Sharad Goel www.nber.org/papers/w35407
Think you American child could be competitive in soccer? Probably going to cost on the order of $5,000-$10,000 per year the way things are currently set-up. They have made a working class sport into a country club sport in terms of costs.
NEW: Citing ProPublica’s reporting, two lawmakers have called on the CDC to address a “preventable public health crisis” of parents refusing the vitamin K shot for their newborns — which has led to babies suffering uncontrollable bleeding and even dying.

Ugh. Supreme Court rules in Slaughter, 6-3 that Trump can fire people from the FTC. But in Cook, Court rules 5-4 that Trump cannot fire everybody from the Fed. Roberts writes both majority opinions There's no real difference between the FTC and the FED other than Roberts likes the Fed.
I am enraged and sad at the sale of @sciam.bsky.social, which caused the layoffs of many excellent journalists including my editor @jfischman.bsky.social. Josh coached and shepherded me through multiple long SciAm features including two cover stories. He made my work so much better and I am bereft.
An eventful week at Scientific American. Owner Springer Nature rushed to sell SciAm 3 days before the staff overwhelmingly voted to form a union, and laid off a lot of people. Including me. I got to work with amazing writers during my time, people who made me better. Thank-you list in comment below:
We all need to try harder to stop publishing and uplifting the visibility of the suite of Nature journals. If you want glam then stick with society journals from AAAS.

Example of the rightward shift in America - democratic socialist is now what used to be called a social democrat in the 1980s. The reformist left is now the far left and what had been the far left, who opposed the USSR/China and advocated for democratic socialism, are all but forgotten.
If only there were some widely-taught, universally recognized historic example of the disastrous consequences of centrists opting to attack their left flank amidst rising fascism. Oh well.
