Having put a lot of effort into the university's preparedness for the Genesis mission, I'm very pleased with the outcome! Way to @uwmadison.bsky.social . And congratulations to Realta Fusion and SHINE making Madison a hotbed of Genesis activity!
5 UW–Madison projects were selected for funding through the U.S. Department of Energy’s new Genesis Mission, an initiative using AI and advanced computing to accelerate breakthroughs in energy, scientific discovery and national security. UW earned more awards than any public university in the U.S.

I just learned that Fred James passed away. Fred was one of the most impactful people on the statistical practices of particle physics: the author of Minuit & a book on statistics; a proponent for frequentist approaches. He had a huge impact on me, and I will miss him en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MINUIT
I've been thinking about the Rubik's cube in 4D. I found an old java version from by Don Hatch and Melinda Green and decided to ask claude to port it to a standalone web app that can run in your browser. You can play it here: theoryandpractice.org/cube4d/ Blog: theoryandpractice.org/2026/07/four...

Proud of UW-Madison and the Madison area's showing with Genesis (even though my proposal wasn't selected). Happy to say that the Data Science Institute is supporting some of the successful proposals.
UW–Madison will receive 5 Phase I Genesis Mission awards from the Department of Energy addressing urgent energy, scientific, and engineering challenges with AI and advanced computing. @uwmadison.bsky.social earned more awards than any other public university in the US. news.wisc.edu/5-projects-a...

Weeks ago, @chanda.blacksky.app sent me this declaration, written and signed by a bunch of mathematicians. But I only had time to read it yesterday, which ended up being right on time given a new round of hype falling exactly under the patterns this document notes.🧵 leidendeclaration.ai

I have great memories of this project, which developed from a narrowly scoped question to something much more impactful over more than a year. It’s interesting how terms like “Asimov” and “signal strength” and “mu” now permeate the field.
