I am the WORST at deadlines but in the opposite way from a lot of people I know. If I don't have a deadline, like for the draft of this new novel I'm working on, I will set an artificial and unnecessary deadline for myself, and then get stressed out if I think I can't hit it.

In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

Take it from me, folks! There are thousands and thousands and THOUSANDS of real books you can buy your grandkids. They're all written and illustrated by real, talented, and passionate human beings. Kids love 'em! You don't have to give them garbage made by nobody that will actively make them dumber.

Apart from data privacy concerns, literacy experts say these garbled and convoluted narratives could be an impediment to learning how to read.
The Republican Party must be destroyed as a functional political entity. But conservatism itself must be eradicated in any way that resembles it's modern existence. There is nothing to save. There is nothing that deserves your respect.
The only responsible attitude for liberals and progressives to align on is that all right-wing grievances, claims and believes are not only false, but malicious lies. Nothing passes the mouth of an American conservative in public life that is not meant to harm and destroy the lives of millions.
So, is Hollywood gonna adapt The Jungle as the next big literary hit? Seems like a good time to take that on.

The argument is always the same: Rather than judge MAHA supporters on what they do, we should judge them on what they say. This is dangerously uninformed about how conspiracy movements work.
I'm just boggled that Americans tend to guess that 25% of the country is Jewish and 20% is Muslim. NYC, the most Jewish city in the country, is about 10% Jewish. Minneapolis is about 10% Muslim.

One of the best things you can do for an author is check their book out of the library. If your library doesn't have the title, requesting it is also great! Never apologize. The library bought the book! Sometimes more than one! Because of you!

Mine is the influential voice in trans publishing who told me that "children's books aren't literature because gourmet chefs don't make baby food."
John Scalzi@scalzi.com · 2w agoI suspect most writers have that one authority figure who was snide about their writing, allowing that writer to be fueled by spite for years if not decades. My version was the creative writing prof who was dismissive about science fiction. I sent him a copy of Old Man's War when it was published.

friends, please: don’t use transreads dot org they claim to support trans authors, but take our entire texts, post them for free, fundraise off it, and have the gall to claim it’s about preservation they are literally taking money from trans creators and make it harder for us to keep creating
