lrp: I've seen so many variations of 'the kinds of games I don't like are gambling' including Elden Ring Bosses(?????) and you can tell it's just the New American Puritan thing where there's no underlying knowledge about how the addiction process of gambling works it's just Thing Bad

I USED TO BE NOTHING BUT THE MAURICE GUY, NOW I'M THE [[It Burns! Ow! Stop! Help Me! It Burns!]] GUY!
sorry to the workers who are bearing the brunt of some upper management types thinking a fighting game could ever make fortnite money instead of the upper management types getting fired because they clearly did no research about what a fighting game market actually looks like
to put on my game design propeller beanie for a moment, i think systems feel the "richest" to me when the micro/macro decisions feed into each other, like shmups have micro (dodging, killing, scoring) and macro (resource management over the run) and you adjust your approach to one based on the other
Death to the self-playing game. www.jank.cool/death-to-the...
I was reading the script for Suicide Squad, because, like, it was famously botched in the edit and I thought it would be interesting to see what the script was like. Not only was it also bad, it's bad in ways that could not possibly come across in the finished product
Another thing about the micro vs macro mechanics post is that I think its more insidious when you think of it in the context of melee action games. There's a sort of subtle macro-ification thats constantly happening, from Suck to Target to heavy reliance on meters, color coded counters, parries, etc.
I would argue the piece is creating a semi-arbitrary distinction between game feel rooted in simulated physical movement (shooting, jumping, drifting) and game feel rooted in UX design (the predatory number-go-up and showering you with gold and shiny lights when opening crates, etc).
How popular are various keywords in the English #Steam reviews of games of different categories? Some categories are less popular, so we rescale accordingly. For example, "Metaprogression" appears in 0.28% bullet heaven reviews and 0.16% spirelike reviews, so the spirelike bar is shorter.
I think I can safely say that I’m shooting to have the crowdfunding campaign for these go live at the beginning of October so STAY TUNED

the thing is people complain about prequelbrain fanservice in stories but the truth is no one cares if your shit is good enough. every single thing big boss was ever famous for happened within 48 hours in russia and was struck from the historical record. no one cared. because that shit was good

i cleared the first loop of Elevator Action (arcade) on the hardest difficulty setting! it's the best game i've played in a very long time. it's like a run 'n' gun crossed with a maze game, and the enemies constantly trap you in silly ways. i highly recommend it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MmZ...

One of the first things I noticed when I finally got my hands on a copy of Titanic Mystery: Aoi no Senritsu was the Activision copyright notice printed on the disc label (you can see it o…

It’s so funny that they have to go “This guy is so fucking scary, I’m so scared of this bad guy, this is the scariest bad guy ever” in that Avengers trailer because they couldn’t build him up or anything. It’s a European guy. The last guy was a big purple alien that had stones that made him God
Ultra difficulty mode's design is going so well that I made an encounter testing which makes me actually mad. The shotgun guys drop mines on knockdown which can clog up the entire central "bridge" + the visibility regularly gets flushed down the toilet. Absolutely Insufferable. Good to go.
