Thousands of unaccompanied immigrant children could lose their lawyers beginning Friday as federally funded contracts supporting them are set to expire, prompting advocates to warn that the move will leave vulnerable minors to face deportation proceedings frightened and alone.

Penelope: home after 20 years on your ship Odysseus: well, a lot of time on the ship for sure Penelope: right? It’s not like you spent several years on a paradise island with a goddess as a lover or anything Odysseus:

Colorado jails put mentally ill and other vulnerable people in solitary confinement. This didn't happen once, it was a routine practice that happened more than 15 days at a time on at least 315 occasions between July 2023 and March 2025. ✏️ @boltsmag.org

Colorado Limited Solitary for People with Mental Illness. But Judges Still Routinely Approve It.  - Bolts

Despite a 2021 law meant to curb solitary confinement in local jails, judges almost always grant requests to isolate people with serious mental illness, often because there's nowhere else to send them...

At least 17 people in ICE custody died “after medical staff delayed or failed to provide critical care that might have saved their lives, according to multiple doctors who reviewed their cases” I know one of the doctors who did the case review Thx to @sfchronicle.com for this critical reporting

Deaths in ICE detention have surged. @sfchronicle.com is tracking them here. The database is the foundation of a Chronicle investigation by @stjbs.bsky.social and myself about medical delays, missed and misdiagnoses and other failures that drove record deaths. www.sfchronicle.com/projects/202...

My brilliant friend & scholar @jaymichaelson.bsky.social recently wrote a fascinating piece on psychedelics, politics & peak experiences—incredibly topical given the daily dose of current chaos, rage, & dysfunction. Read it while it’s hot! jaymichaelson.substack.com/p/does-wonde...

Does Wonder Make You Wonder?

Do peak experiences (religious, psychedelic, or otherwise) make us question our beliefs and identities? And does that make us better people?

Oh boy. Wow. This is ... quite a line to read between. If I'm reading this right, the CEO of GEO is saying one reason they're selling buildings to ICE is to make it harder for state officials to indict them on federal charges when they do horrible things to the people detained therein.

Citizens Bank says it's committed to fostering strong communities, but keeps financing GEO Group & CoreCivic. Help turn up the pressure on Citizens to stop bankrolling the for-profit prison companies hurting our communities and killing our neighbors before their 4/23 shareholder meeting!

The "distracted boyfriend meme" with Citizens Bank's wandering eye focused on for-profit prison & ICE detention companies — instead of the communities it says it's committed to.

Between 2025 and 2026, the number of people detained by ICE on any given day grew by nearly 60%. Thanks to Trump's deportation agenda, expanded immigration detention accounts for almost all of the growth in mass incarceration since last year.

Pie chart showing that almost 88,000 people are confined for immigration reasons in the U.S.
