I know that "nothing has gotten better in 40 years" post is just bait, but I submit for your consideration: The near-total ban on smoking in public places

Funny bit in Spider-Man: BND (mild spoiler): ... ... ... The kid in Bruce Banner's physics class who asked why Thanos didn't just use the infinity stones to make more resources

You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.

Some animal (presumably) has been leaving decapitated rabbits in my yard. Feels a bit like being in the opening act of a horror movie

I think “I am the protagonist of life” is the main psychological appeal of this kind of conspiracism. You risked nothing, you did nothing, and other real people are suffering the things you’re pretending to think are bad, but in the end you’re the great hero for surviving your imagination.

I don't even really follow sports, but even I would like to see more sportsposting on here and, like, fewer throw-down arguments among six different niche flavors of communist

Gentle reminder for all that if you have books that are water damaged, crawling with bugs, physically broken, or giving you travel advice for a country that hasn’t existed since the 90s, you can safely throw them away, you don’t need to make them your local thrift store’s problem.

I get so mad every time I see the trailer for that movie where "it's legal for single people to have sex one night a year." Makes no doggone sense!

there's this idea that if someone would just find the right words to describe things in public life, you eventually find ones that can't be twisted and not only do i think that's not true i think it's counterproductive. just constantly giving up useful concepts, always in retreat

The new Avatar (the Last Airbender, not the big blue guys) movie is really well done, but the relationships among the main cast got short shrift. That was a major reason the original series was so good!
