Academics and technologists are sounding the alarm about a growing crisis in scholarship as we know it: AI-generated citations of nonexistent papers that have infested real journals. Despite being fake, the sources are widely assumed to be authentic the more they appear in published literature.

I want people to understand the full impact of the devastation that First Nations in Canada are facing. It's NOT just that people and wildlife are losing their homes...it's the history that is being lost for generations to come.

The reason elite consensus switched on net zero is that the elite realized: 1) Carbon capture doesn’t work, and carbon removal is really challenging. 2) The world is facing trillions of dollars in devalued assets if we actually do phase out fossil fuels. So they decided to let the world burn.

Cognition cannot be measured

The reason why it is essential to read IN BULK when studying history is not simply to amass empirical knowledge—though that is important, too, of course—but because *interpretation* requires thick contextual awareness, and there is NO SHORTCUT for building that up that awareness.

I dunno if this is offensive to say because I seem to upset people when I say this, but humanities people should consider joining us, or at least join us in decoupling from Word and other MS products where we can... and @acollierastro.bsky.social says it more convincingly than I can!

"Because it's the right thing to do", "Because human rights are not negotiable" and "Fuck you, make me" all cut right through the noise and yet so many find them impossible to say

Took this test just for fun. Not bad. Doesn't mix up answers too much and forgets a few possible answers on the critical side, but on the whole it's reasonable. Don't love the Doctorow thing but it's ok, I like many of his positions, the arguments just don't land.
