We bought a peach tree last year and were so excited for peaches. Alas, the squirrels had other ideas. This year we bought a giant net for it. We may have looked WAY too excited for Halloween for half the summer, but success!
When Ted Turner died I learned he personally demanded a pro-environmentalism show for kids. It ended up being Captain Planet, which, along with Fern Gully, propagandized millennials in the best way.

If we had kings, @dennycarter.bsky.social would be the king of cutting straight to the heart of an issue in a way that should obliterate conservative opposition. Hell yes we need ALL the shows that tell kids it’s ok to be good.

I looked up the species found in the area, in field guides, then finally posted to iNat for verification. Sometimes an ID takes multiple steps!

Can you #FindThatLizard?! Juvenile western skinks, Plestiodon skiltonianus, have blue tails to deter predators. It seems counterintuitive. Why would you want to stand out as a way of defense? In 2016, Japanese scientists published a study focusing on the Far Eastern skink, lestiodon latiscutatus.

Tuesday was supposed to break the hex. And then Mikaela Shiffrin had her worst (non-DNF) race in almost 14 years. Another medal missed. Now there's actual pressure on Shiffrin to go out and do something she hasn't had to do in a long time: prove to everyone she's still the best skier in the world.
