Lidsville was a surrealist 70s kids show about cartoon autocrats in an alternate reality, & now here we are. Comms/strategy on environment, energy, housing. Upcoming book on Habitat ‘76: http://habitat76.ca

Dave is right. Forest mismanagement has handed climate change an open runway in BC. And the BC NDP continue to clear the runway for both more forest mismanagement (they've done nothing to fix forestry in 9 years) and climate change turbocharged by their fracking methane/LNG. #bcpoli #wildfires

Thx I'm OK the fires aren't under control & won't be anytime soon. BC ended the nuclear option to fight forest fires, opting for small bucket dumps that are unable to stop raging fires. Our orange sky matches the BC NDP as they continue to prioritize fracked gas projects releasing tons of methane!

Rumour is the horrific fire around Vernon was started by a guy after he injured himself on his quad (what on earth are guys doing riding quads around during fire season anyway? Known cause!) and the Spokane fires were started by yet another arsonist. So, it's either lightning or... men?

The New York Times accidentally did some real journalism. The Democratic Party was forced to release its report on its last election failure, but they held back a key chapter. The report's author gave that chapter to the @nytimes.com Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/08/03/u...

Author of Democrats’ 2024 Autopsy Says Party Left Out Key Chapter

A dispute over the chapter between the author and the Democratic National Committee has added to the party’s turmoil as it tries to look forward, not backward.

Even one usage retroactively makes all your content questionable - how do we know the previous work wasn’t hallucinated? How do we know it’s trustworthy? The answer is simple. Do your own research and write your own stuff. Don’t outsource your credibility to an LLM. 6/6

How is this Atlantic writer on CBC The Current managing to talk about aesthetics without mentioning aesthetics? Or why sensory experience in the modern world is so degraded, or what the politics of that are? Or anything else that might be interesting in this topic? I despair.

Is this really the sort of right-wing awfulness—deliberate, tacit violation of both norms and Supreme Court decisions—that journalists should be flatly reporting as if it’s totally normal? We know what doing that is called and where it leads, right? #bcpoli

The powerful in our city have never seemed to understand that our best culture comes from places and people that they consider disreputable, and "vitality" can't be measured in property wealth.

As many of us have been saying for so long, demolition of history and historical context, mixed with rampant speculation driving arts and cultural activity out of town... Well, who wants to visit that? Let alone live in it. #vanpoli vancouversun.com/opinion/colu...

A respected organization that measures how global tourists feel about a destination rated Vancouver much lower than Seattle.

How to fix your dead garburetor: Do everything youtube/reddit says, for 2 days. If nothing works & it only hums, it's dead. Go spend $400 on a new one. Come home, watch more DIY videos. Turn old garburetor on to use hum to figure out which breaker it's on. Old one will start working. Return new one

There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.

It was March 2007. Apple had just debuted the iPhone. The Iraq War was raging. Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth had won two Oscars. And the prime minister of Canada was talking about “the exciting new technology called carbon capture and storage.” by @meyer.bsky.social: thenarwhal.ca/canada-carbo...

For 20 years, Canada’s leaders have promised a carbon capture fix | The Narwhal

It’s expensive and unproven at scale. From Stephen Harper to Mark Carney, Canadian politicians have made promises on carbon capture — yet to be delivered

Do not let this go, folks. RFK Jr. is lying. “We did cuts in the FoodNet program, but they were redundant surveillance… we’re still doing surveillance in all the states.” He minimized measles. Don’t let him minimize the cyclosporiasis outbreak.
