I'm a taurus, and my turn-offs are racism, capitalism, misogyny, and queerphobia. I make books with @psvancouver.bsky.social. Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish territory, in Vancouver BC. I block AI image posters, that stuff is just ugly.
For my @xtramagazine.com column this month: "There are no trans women in the WNBA; there has never been an openly trans player in the WNBA... so it’s essentially impossible for a trans woman to play in the league or refute any of Cunningham’s statements." xtramagazine.com/power/politi...

After Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham came out against trans women playing women’s sports, the league has allowed things to snowball

Mark Carney has: -scrapped consumer carbon tax -scrapped oil/gas emissions cap -cut $1.3B from environment Canada -weakened industrial carbon pricing -axed 2 billion trees program -approved 1M barrels/day pipeline -weakened greenwashing laws While this is happening:
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
Caitlin Flanagan was a prominent Atlantic staff writer for 25 years. Explain to me again how the Atlantic is a serious-minded, left-center publication.
Another study on youth transition that find that about 97% of all youth who says they're trans turn out to be. Only 1.1% who start HRT stopped it for any reason whatsoever. This is, like, the fifth youth transition study that I'm aware of, and all of their results have been identical.
Canadian researchers found that 97 percent of youth who seek treatment for gender dysphoria still identify as trans years later.
It's reassuring that many people can still recognize creeps when they see them.
Pierre Poilievre and Maxime Bernier named Canada’s most unpopular party leaders
bsky.app/profile/hlee... I want to talk about this for a minute as an important case study in how conservative positions, completely divorced from reality, scaffold out their rhetorical credibility 🧵
Amnesty have issued an apology to JK Rowling and the rest. Adjust your expectations, and donations, accordingly www.amnesty.org.uk/latest/an-ap...
So the key findings of Amnesty's report was that these anti-rights groups have massive funding, that it comes largely from far-right christian groups in the US, and that they're abusing UK charity law to misrepresent themselves as pro-rights organisations.
Rowling signed the Harper’s Letter, which lamented, “it is now all too common to hear calls for swift and severe retribution in response to perceived transgressions of speech and thought.” Are ANY of her co-signatories — some follow me — going to speak up about her crusade against trans people?
Amnesty International correctly called out Rowling's transphobia. She threatened them in response. And @amnesty.org surrendered. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
My government will take immediate action to lower the cost of queerness.

Received this bizarre email out of the blue yesterday from National Post columnist Adam Zivo gloating over my former colleague's layoff notice I'd like to thank Postmedia for looking into it and issuing this statement clarifying Zivo is expected to uphold professional standards for employee conduct
So many of the claims about trans athletes by the anti trans side are simply made up. This woman got caught lying about two trans athletes and was forced to pay out because of it. www.lgbtqnation.com/2026/07/an-a...
An anti-trans activist lied about a trans athlete injuring cis women. Now she has to pay the price. - LGBTQ Nation
Kirralie Smith admitted in court she didn't have any evidence to back up her claim about a trans woman injuring two cis women.

ABC: "We're listen to Vancouver residents, not staff. Unless it's about the budget. Or Broadway active transport lanes. Or the renter's office. Or The Vision Zero action plan. Or gas heating in new builds. But when the majority of speakers align with our pre-existing motives, WE WILL LISTEN!"

Every day, around 20 coal trains travel through our communities on their way to the Port of Vancouver. They bring coal dust, diesel pollution, noise, traffic delays, and safety concerns to our friends and family who live, work, and go to school nearby. act.stand.earth/page/100544/...
Canada needs to power past coal. Tell Carney: phase out thermal coal exports!
The Liberal government committed to phasing out thermal coal exports by 2030. Instead, the Port of Vancouver has doubled its thermal coal exports since 2015. Now this port is the premier coal exporter...

Is this really the sort of right-wing awfulness—deliberate, tacit violation of both norms and Supreme Court decisions—that journalists should be flatly reporting as if it’s totally normal? We know what doing that is called and where it leads, right? #bcpoli

You know what's a great idea? A big ole data centre in the middle of a city already struggling with yearly drought and water restrictions. With no transparency or accountability about what the thing is even for, or what benefits it will bring to the community. c.org/5bVTqQY4Tq
