This is why the CA AG can't cut a deal. He needs to kill it instead. It will devastate the entertainment industry, and all the related jobs that support it. Los Angeles isn't just entertainment jobs, but all the restaurants and hotels and other workers that support it. variety.com/2026/film/ne...

Contrast is actually really important for appeal. Not just contrast between your characters and their timing, but also within the scenes, sequences and overall season. If you pump everything up to 12/10 right out of the gate you have to stay there and people expect you to keep going.

I'm doing a workshop with some students and a lot of my advice is like ,less movement - less words. ('dialog is not acting' is a refrain) So many people with a love of characters make the mistake of only focusing on those 'fun' aspects and gloss over everything else that communicates just as much!

Studios like that animation makes them a profit while those doing the actual labor remain anonymous. Our directors and writers are secondary to “Disney” and “Sony” and “DreamWorks”. They can cash in without the risk of someone’s name getting too big, too important.

One animator put it plainly: “You have no idea how frustrating it is to see press release after press release touting how much money our animated film made and how many nominations we got; then [the studio] turns to people who have worked here forever and says, ‘We don’t need you anymore.’” Heh.

Being outside your comfort zone is good! Its how anything worthwhile and interesting in life happens. That being said, I’ve been outside my comfort zone for so long that I am very much so looking forward to the two weeks I have scheduled of doing nothing but being in my comfort zone. Exhausted

Storyboard artists, often closest and most integral to realizing a director's vision, are a relatively cheap part of the process. Often their role is disparaged, or not even understood. And yet one of the main goals of AI in film production seems to be to replicate what they do.

A24 announces that they want to put storyboard artists out of work. That's what the headline should be written as. Becuase we should be honest about what these AI "tools" are trying to do, and who it is trying to circumvent. variety.com/2026/film/ne...
