I recently booked a car viewing via a dealer's website, and didn't even realise I was talking to an AI chatbot. And fair play, it was great! Apart from it booking us in to the wrong department, for the wrong vehicle, and not telling anyone we were coming, which took half a dozen people to sort out.

In your article, you mentioned a graphic "Only You Can Prevent Data Centers"- that you thought was made by AI. It wasn't, it was made by me, an artist that is very much against AI. In fact, I turned it into a shirt and raised money for a local arts education nonprofit in Chicago.

I’ve been screening our documentary with organizing communities in the South. So far, the organizers mention data centers first at every single event. From racial justice orgs to old school activists who don’t usually think about tech policy. This has legs.

Sure, Bluesky's a lot more polished and attracted a more diverse userbase, but they prioritized speed over sustainability. Now they're on the hook to turn profitable and pay off their investors, or they're gone in about 2-3 years, likely taking the Atmosphere with them.
