"Some pirates achieved immortality by great deeds of cruelty or derring-do. Some achieved immortality by amassing great wealth. But the captain had long ago decided that he would, on the whole, prefer to achieve immortality by not dying." Terry Pratchett
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Is rushing towards Bethlehem as summoned?
Prediction: in the coming years, there will be a huge market for low-level therapists whose only job will be deprogramming the many, *many* AI cultists and teaching them once more how to be human. ๐ฅฒ
My answer is LOL ROFL (dickbrain) The terminally AI-pilled can't even *imagine* some people have *never* asked stochastic parrots to cheat at their job for them.
I saw a video from a recovering alcoholic. He talked about how he used to buy rounds of drinks all the time. It wasn't generosity. He was trying to get everyone else hammered so he wouldn't feel so guilty and awkward about being sloshed himself. I feel like similar happens with some AI pushers.
I feel like I'm leveling up in my craft (or at least story/market matching ๐ง ) because these days I get more personalized rejections than ever before. ๐
The last two days were chaotic and I saved my hotel checkout till the very last moment and I sure am glad I looked inside my hotel fridge... So anyway, that's why I'm chugging two bottles of hard cider at 10:23am. ๐ ๐ป #LilyProblems
Last night in Kansas, and we won! โ and our whole presence was redundant, maybe, languishing as we were among the suburbs with our flyers and what not, and yet we won! and lo, the celebrations, and though my bosses take their leave too soon, the barkeep is quite fun, though she is married. :(
i don't like to police genre, but it's not dark academia unless somebody gets squished in one of these bad boys
Hypothesis: mandatory reading lists are created by joyless nincompoops and/or sadists. ๐ I had the same issue in my Russian high school: it was nothing but depressing 19th-century Russian literature, most of it written by sad slaveowners. ๐คฎ (Rot in hell, Tolstoy.) That killed my love of reading. ๐
I swear to God, part of the problem of literacy is that we make kids read SO MANY books like this. Of course theyโre going to associate reading with misery! We put them in a Skinner box and shock them when they read, what did people THINK would happen?
That guy, right there, is a genius and a hero and that was absolutely brilliant. ๐
chat can anyone verify that every single Flock camera has about 2-3 Ibs of copper and about 1-2 grams of gold
Only a few days left to vote for the #HugoAwards! I'd love it if you'd read my nominated short story, "Laser Eyes Ain't Everything". Read it at Diabolical Plots (www.diabolicalplots.com/dp-fiction-1...) or listen to it at Cast of Wonders.

I put the "hi" in "hypothesis" ๐๐
I don't think people are ready for this kind of joke yet.
๐งต Three things new @laworldcon.bsky.social attendees & 1st-time Hugo Awards voters sometimes donโt know: 1) You donโt have to vote on every category for your votes to count. EX: Just because you donโt have time to read every Hugo-nominated book doesnโt mean you canโt vote on films & visual arts.
Woke up to find a pretty big rejection (boo!) but also a rather optimistic hold notice on a story (woo!) Ahh, the writing life... ๐๐
This may well be the fanciest rejection letter I've ever received. :) "Dear Mighty-Thewed Author, Thank you for your submission. Alas, other scribes have claimed the prize. Your valor shall be remembered. Know that this shall not be the last chance to send stories to our magazine."
If vampires were real, homeowners with "Welcome" signs and doormats would have gone extinct.
