I hit the streets of Bellingham, WA to hear from local business owners about how Trump's tariffs are costing them—literally. They all agreed: let’s pass my bill to end Trump’s tariffs NOW.

Biomedical scientists - a reminder that NIH proposes to "improve" peer review by hiding impact scores from Program Officers and applicants, and binning applications into broad categories of "Most competitive,""Competitive," or "Not discussed." Please provide feedback before the October 13 deadline!

Hurrah for another preprint! My faculty and student coauthors and I investigated whether an intro Biology lab curriculum actually gives students opportunities to engage in science practices. The answer? Often, yes! And we can do better without too much work. academic.oup.com/iob/advance-...

Amid the rush to burn DEI infrastructure to the ground, it’s worth remembering that the goal was never favoritism. It was a fair shot for people long excluded by unconscious or real bias — prominent scientists, including Nobel laureates, openly argued some “races” were innately unsuited for science.

"There will likely be “spillover” to Europe from what the Trump administration is attempting in the US, said Colette Delawalla [..] European scientists need to prepare now for similar assaults" Nogle kendte RFK Jr- og MAHA-allierede fra et 🇩🇰 universitet nævnes som et faresignal - just saying. ⚠️

"Rena" sent this from Moses Lake WA where she is weeding carrots for a non-union company. She shared: The air is bad. See my cell phone. The AQI is 166, which is unhealthy. We start at 4am. We'll work 7-8 hrs & earn minimum wage. #WeFeedYou

There are only a few hours left to comment on the proposed OMB rule that would eviscerate American science. This is the single best summary, and guidance for how to write a comment, that I have seen. PLEASE submit something, even if it is only 2 or 3 paragraphs.

For folks asking why bother commenting because the OMB won't care: comments help build cases for the courts by explicitly laying out harms. That's why it's really important to have your comments be as specific as possible. Also, contact your senators and reps! They actually do care about this.

Monday is the deadline for public comment! The Heritage Foundation has been mobilizing its members to leave comments in favor of the rule change, so every unique comment matters (don’t use a form letter or copy/paste—similar comments are batched and treated as one).

🚨 HEADS UP: If you haven't submitted a comment on the OMB proposal yet, there's still time - but it's running out! There are only 5 days left to push back against Russell Vought's attempt to give political appointees unprecedented control over federal research funding. Take Action: zurl.co/w6DcW

Graphic from Stand Up for Science urging action on a federal funding proposal. Large text reads: "5 Days Left" and "Help Us Stop Vought From Destroying American Science." A portrait of Russell Vought appears beside the U.S. Capitol. A banner along the bottom reads: "Submit a comment on the OMB proposal | Link in bio to take action." The Stand Up for Science logo appears in the top left.

I used this excellent guide to help me craft a better comment against the proposed OMB rules regarding federal grants. @genetics-gsa.bsky.social is hosting virtual work hours if you need company and motivation. Trans rights are human rights. elizabethginexi.substack.com/p/what-we-ne...
