Mark Kermode, TV/radio/podcast/books/stage legend/film critic; saviour of THE DEVILS intact; wrote in The Guardian 2/3/25: Mark Kermode on… director Ken Russell, the king of cult classics who was so much more than a sensationalist…

I think Keri Russell saying "what the fuck" in The Diplomat series 2 should be the talisman/internet meme of 2024.
Going to watch Hopscotch with Glenda Jackson and Walter Matthau for sheer joy.
Glenda Jackson with her Best Actress Oscar for "Women in Love"

Ten hours later, different location - starting to think my dog is actually the source of the rainbow.
As Danny Kaye once sang, ‘Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen / Friendly old girl of a town / ‘Neath her tavern light /. On this merry night / Let us clink and drink one down’. Except it’s a sunny Saturday in October. But there’s always later.
So happy to be back in Belfast for Cinemagic Festival - 20 years since @kermodemovie.bsky.social’s first film night (all the titles from over the years are here), and 35 years of Cinemagic getting young people involved in films and the screen industries

Post your most popular art from Twitter. Rail Racer/JRX from Transformers RID/CR.
Post your most popular art from Twitter It couldn't be any other I guess 😅
You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who is coming to save you? Honestly I'm not sure I could be in safer hands, although it's going to be dramatic as fuck. And I don't mean exciting, I mean DRAMA.
Literally just finished painting mine today!
Thinking about cancelling all my other streaming services and only keeping the BFI player. The Mark Kermode introductions are amazing player.bfi.org.uk

I watched A Scanner Darkly (2006) at the BFI IMAX today (no, not in IMAX, just digital 2K), and forgot that Alex Jones has a cameo A bit of a double-take honestly, hah
THE TENANTS is a wonderful movie - one of the best Korean genre pictures of the decade. Sharp, absurd, and playful, it skewers modern capitalism as a machine designed to eat you. Plays tonight at the BFI with an intro by the incomparable @antbit.bsky.social. #HorrorSky #MovieSky 📽️
"While set in the future, this Kafkaesque dystopia cohabits with the features of today’s urban existence": Yoon Eun-kyoung's uncanny, insidious satire THE TENANTS screens 8.30pm tonight at BFI Southbank for London Korean Film Festival, with intro by me www.koreanfilm.co.uk/events/the-t...
So don’t give up hope. Do not despair. That is what they want, and we shall not give them that satisfaction. In Japanese, there is a word my mother used to say to me. “Gaman, Georgie,” she’d say. It means to endure with fortitude and dignity. We all could benefit the spirit of Gaman. /5
But we did not give up on this country. We rebuilt our lives, and we worked to ensure that something like this never happened again in America. Now, I fear there are echoes from that dark chapter of our history. They are speaking once again of camps to hold people, this time for the crime of /2
I have faced fascism before, in this very country. I was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans summarily rounded up and expelled from our homes at gunpoint, all for the crime of looking like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor. I spent my childhood behind barbed wire. My parents lost everything. 1/
Mine is probably Troll 2. It's so bad and silly, and makes me feel better.
I rewatched Communion yesterday after seeing @cinemastrikesback.bsky.social talk about it a while ago. All I remembered was Walken’s performance and it is…so wild. Apparently given free rein by the director and scolded by the writer he’s playing. He’s sketch comedy one minute, Deer Hunter the next.
Horror film recommendation of the day: Nadja (1994)! A b/w 90s deadpan indie dream of a vampire film, in which Elina Löwensohn’s vamp is pursued across NY and beyond by Peter Fonda’s Van Helsing after her father’s death. With Martin Donovan, Jared Harris, a David Lynch cameo and a great soundtrack.
Ooh one of my favourite films is on BFI Player! Alison Maclean’s film of Denis Johnson’s amazing book Jesus’ Son. Billy Crudup is FH, a substance user who drifts through people and jobs. Stars Samantha Morton, Holly Hunter, Dennis Hopper, Denis Leary, Jack Black, Michael Shannon, Miranda July…
Fantastic news - Christina is shepherding a Visconti season to the BFI in Jan! From what I’ve seen, I agree with her - Rocco is the standout. But I’ve only seen that, The Leopard, Death In Venice and Ludwig (extended TV version). Does anyone have any recommendations for where to go next? #FilmSky 📽️
I could not be happier to announce that I have curated a season of Luchino Visconti's works, featuring a 4k restoration of my favourite, Rocco and his Brothers, for January 2025. More than half of the films will be screening on 35mm at BFI Southbank. More info here: www.bfi.org.uk/news/luchino...
