Checking in from the Seward laundromat halfway thru a wild Alaska adventure with Mr. Lohplaces. We are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and it’s been magical, though we did both just break down cackling next to the dryers over this. Here’s to the next 20, babe. I love to laugh with you. ❤️

The revenue comp here doesn’t account for sales or payroll taxes generated by streeteries and so it’s silly. That said it’s true that most streeteries weren’t ADA complaint or busy and had no future. The real truth is somewhere in the middle, written on a napkin and allowed within 5 feet of a tree.

City Cast DC with a very deeply reported and thorough piece about streateries. My take - There needed to be fees and actual regulations about these and there were bound to be growing pains, which is happening now dc.citycast.fm/business-dev...

Obstetrician Housewife (5 kids) Banker Housewife (4 kids) The banker's wife was from a branch of a wealthy family that lost everything in a war, so I would be in a mansion with servants if I went pre-war, but TBH I prefer my real life except that I would have liked to have more children.

Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?

My brain started SIZZLING immediately upon just skimming the playlist titles...in terms of milestones this was probably the most jam-packed year of my life. Everything changed, and this was the soundtrack. It's a massive trip listening to this!

deeply annoying that creative breakthroughs don’t come on schedule from direct work but from things like “open-ended conversations with interesting people” and “doing nothing”

This was a good read, but it doesn't mention the fact that Moana is relatively unique among Disney movies in offering a complete cosmology, basically a story that explains the whole world. My kids still refer to Brooklyn as "our island." www.nytimes.com/2026/07/11/m...

Kids Can’t Stop Watching ‘Moana.’ There’s a Scientific Explanation.

The 2016 release has become the most watched movie on Disney+. Parents and experts explain why kids can’t get enough.

I just did a Verizon customer service phone call with an AI and it was much smoother and faster than talking to most human call centers. That was interesting. I wonder if what I called about will actually happen.

As someone who does YouTube, most candidates described as "authentic" are just… good on camera. And if that's what you want, that's fair! But you need to know that looking "natural" on camera is hella work! That's not "authentic" you're seeing, that's a high degree of media savvy. And budget.

The problem with an OK Ave metro station is not that it’s “too expensive.” It is, but it also doesn’t make sense! (1/4) Because the existing track is curved, steep, & elevated, a big new track segment would be needed, which would involve acquiring land - land that the city wants developed.
