Tofu recall in 29 states. Short food chains and smaller distribution + regulation means safer, more resilient food systems. Less chance for pooled contaminated products, easier to trace issues. The oldest tofu maker in the US is here in PDX: Ota Tofu. I also like Bui Tofu in Montavilla.

Bike infrastructure isn’t about catering to existing cyclists. It’s about opening up access, independence, and opportunity for those who can't drive. Cities that invest in cycling are actively choosing to give more people the freedom to move through their communities. LISTEN: bccycling.ca/podcast

I am 100% serious. DraftKings hosts their service on aws. Tell AWS that if they do not suspend DraftKings and turn over all server records to Washington State police, the police raid us-west-1 and us-west-2 and just start pulling plugs out of the wall

New York and California should send their state Police to seize bank accounts and computer servers to preserve evidence of crimes. They should kill it dead, this weekend, Sunday while the banks are closed

Not to minimize the harms of tire wear, and EVs are heavier given a car size (although in the US EVs tend to be much smaller than ICE). But as a parent who's taken an interest in protecting my kids from drivers, there's nothing I can do about gases and it's frustrating. bsky.app/profile/this...

A game I like to play because after a decade of reporting on climate change I'm a wee bit broken is, "how will climate change break that?" It's not just hotter temperatures, hurricanes, more extreme rainfall etc. It's knock on effects from that. Like changes in rainfall causing landslides.

I spent most of the day in my front yard garden and not only does my garden look better, not only did I get to hang out with bees and hummingbirds, but so many folks in the neighborhood stopped their cars and detoured on their walks to stop and chat. I forgot it used to be like this. ❤️❤️❤️

Look: I'm not against taxing rich people more. But if your goal is to tax rich people so they can't you know overthrow democracy income taxes aren't how you do it. You're just going to hit the guy with a really good construction company. They shouldn't be your first target.

Also, a reminder of my favorite ever Popular Mechanics article about British Paratroopers in WWII who jumped out of planes strapped to folding bicycles because the bikes let them cover ground fast upon landing

The British Paratroopers Who Parachuted Into Enemy Territory with Folding Bicycles

The BSA Airborne Paratrooper Bicycle was carried by British soldiers who landed on D-Day and in many other conflicts during World War II.

"The Nerd Reich" is the #2 on the San Francisco Chronicle's list of Bay Area bestsellers for non-fiction. It's amusing to see my book climb the charts in publications that otherwise refuse to mention it! 👀 But that's okay, we are steamrolling the gatekeepers.
