"Fietser".... happiest cycling, in 'normal clothes'. Cargo bike in South Wales. Ban SUVs!

For the 5th consecutive year child casualties have flat-lined at around 13,000 road casualties of age 16 and under. In what other area of life would the death or injury of 13,000 children be "acceptable"? The government has a Road Safety Strategy that aims to reduce child KSIs by 70%.

Sickening figures quoted in this article for people killed/seriously injured in 1 year. Almost THIRTY THOUSAND. I'm trying to imagine what this article - & reactions to it - would look like with any other mode of transport. 30k plane deaths? 30k hit by ebikes? www.theguardian.com/world/2026/j...

A special thank you to the woman behind me in an SUV today who was clearly in a rush, and yet had the time to stop, wind her window down and shout at me that I was 'getting in everyone's way' as I was cycling uphill outside my 6yr old's school. Stunningly ignorant.

I've seen this article on TV repeatedly today, & I cant help but think that 1) unless I'm mistaken, the pedestrians 'cross' light is red. WE HAVE AVOCET NEWS!!! An Avocet spotted at RSPB Middleton Lakes has been confirmed as the oldest ever recorded in the UK. At 36 years old, it's lived more than five times longer than the species' average lifespan. First ringed in 1990, it's still out there doing Avocet things. Go on Avocet. 😍

An Avocet strides across the edge of a wetland, one leg lifted mid-step as if caught in an elegant strut. Its striking black-and-white plumage and long upturned bill stand out against a softly blurred backdrop of green reeds.

How many people will be driving to work on next to no sleep, and possibly still with a lot of alcohol in their system this morning do we think?

Indeed. Businesses have to actually paint & add signs to parent-&-child (& disabled!) spaces in their car parks, coz they know full well how selfish drivers are, & they will just park right in front of the door to where they're going if those spaces aren't officially reserved for ppl who need them.

Drivers never leave spaces near the front of parking lots for cars with small children, so that kids don't have to walk past so many truck drivers who might not see them before moving. Transit passengers always offering seats to kids. They love it.

How much faster than the speed limit do you think someone would be needing to travel in the opposite direction to me, for it to be worth reporting? Along a 20mph Rd, and even by the poor standard along there, he was *noticeably* fast going past me.
