Maker of games, sort of anyway. #solodev #bevy #linux #noai Art and stuff: @toonspex.bsky.social

In less controversial news! Added some animations to Cyber Piggie (the boss that appears on screen every so often). I'm currently just figuring out how to add more meaningful content to the game (other bomb types , stages , bosses, more juice and accessibility options). #gamedev #pixelart

There's been a lot of focus on hooks and observers in #bevy development lately. I do see the value in using it for specific cases, but I've ended up in the trap of not thinking in batches on occasion, especially with the observers.

I've been tinkering with a twinstick shooter idea for a while, but my mind is drifting to an older idea again. I don't really play action games; why am I making one? My older idea is bigger though, and should be 3D I guess. I should probably align my projects with my preferences tho. #indiedev

Been working on `no_std` support for the #bevy game engine. It might not look like much, but here's a Bevy game compiled for the GameBoy Advance running in an emulator on an Android phone! The next release (0.16) will include this support for everyone! #gamedev

An Android phone held in landscape. On the phone is a GameBoy Advance emulator playing a game. The game shows a white screen with a small pixel-art character at the bottom edge.

Seen posts shitting on people for drawing ‘what’s popular’ and like, as someone’s who’s been on that grind before, it’s HARD. It makes you question the quality of the final piece because you don’t have that special spark of attachment to what you’re drawing.

Just tried to read up on Perl and now bash doesn't seem so bad. Perl having scalars, arrays and dictionaries; each having their own namespaces was just too weird and I said no. NO! $foo is a scalar, and you can have an array named @foo at the same time, and also a dictionary %foo. Why not.

I can never make up my mind about bash scripts. The simplicity of just calling a series of CLI commands is nice, but the obscure syntax for everything else is so frustrating. Wondering if it's worth putting my automation stuff into Perl. Just gotta learn Perl... #indiedev
