Also: We keep hearing that a number of Congressmembers think that everything at NIH has gone back to normal, and the Trump appointees are in fact on the side of saving NIH. That is false. Things at NIH are WORSE than last year. Please reach out to your senators and reps and tell them that.

Schematic of the experimental setup and our analysis. Mice experienced visual corridors containing leaf or circle patterns, with reward available only for one pattern in the rewarded cohort and no reward in the unrewarded cohort. Large-scale calcium imaging sampled neurons across V1 and higher visual areas before and after learning. Neural activity was organised into neuron × time × trial tensors and analysed with tensor component analysis. Example factors show differences between rewarded and unrewarded mice before versus after learning, including stronger separation of leaf and circle trials after rewarded learning.

Neuroscientist here, who has talked about the US losing science ground to other countries: The biggest problem for generating future cures for brain diseases is the ongoing utter destruction of US basic neuroscience. It’s not about regulation.

A colleague received bad news from her NIH program officer today: my colleague’s grant got a great score, but NIH still can’t pay it, and my colleague will have to closer her lab. The call ended with the program officer (not my colleague) crying. Awful on so many levels.

People supporting arxiv’s policy on LLM use haven’t thought through the unintended consequences of PERMANENTLY banning ALL COAUTHORS. The 16th author on your 20-author paper didn’t check all the refs on a paper many ago? Now YOU can’t post the preprint on arxiv. Starting a collaboration? Better 1/

Am I reading this right that the penalty for using LLMs is a 1 year ban for all authors and then a permanent submission ban for papers that haven't been peer reviewed? That feels like a permanent ban given arxiv is a preprint server. There needs to be action but not sure this is proportionate.
