I mean, this is the crux of it, right? It's all just part of a 'healthy debate' for these people. It's not real, it's just semantics. And 'many many Jewish voices' agree with me, so I don't understand why the rest of you are whinging about it.

Laura Webster@lauraewebster.bsky.social · 5d ago

Nothing wrong with healthy debate on the topic! But media attempts to portray this policy as inherently antisemitic are deliberately ignoring the many many Jewish voices in favour of it. I don't think that helps anyone.

The "zionism is racism" motion that has just passed on the Green Party's conference floor is truly gross, and deeply racist. The party's MPs deserve some credit for opposing it, though they should've done so more stridently and sooner. This is now a millstone around the party's necks. Deservedly.

A man builds an IED. He sets it off in a busy public street. Shrapnel flies about hitting cars, homes and a child's bedroom. It's a miracle nobody is injured. And Reform MP Sarah Pochin calls his imprisonment "disproportionate" and "two tier justice."

It does raise this point of two-tiered
justice..

Reform's Sarah Pochin believes the
sentence handed to the 64-year-old who
blew up a ULEZ camera was
disproportionate'.

Since we are all on it: my pet hate *as a cyclist* is folk cycling the wrong down the lane on unidirectional lanes. There's plenty of space on a dedicated lane on the other side! Stop making me swerve out of the way on a tight corner! The corner at the Star Bar is the worst for this.

Nearly been run over twice today by cyclists, one on a pavement the other going down the wrong side of the road. How's your day going, and can we perhaps start asking for some basic rules to be followed?

Sorry, this is dumb/ahistorical. UK sanctions against South Africa 1985/86 were also largely "symbolic". But Thatcher had to be dragged kicking and screaming, and the apartheid regime devoted huge resources to stopping them - just as the Israeli govt is now. Symbols *really* matter here..

Diplomatic correspondent Paul Adams: "[The UK govt] recognises that banning a relatively small quantity of mostly agricultural products is a largely symbolic gesture, but Miliband is describing this as a major reset" A symbolic gesture.

When acknowledging anything Mike Huckabee says, he is doing so in the context that he sincerely, truly, believes his role is to bring about the end of the world. How do you conduct international relations with garbled eschatology and anti-semitism sitting alongside you at the table?

The term "reset" is crucial. Israel has undergone a comprehensive reset in the last four years: it has reset its constitution, its security forces and its military tactics and strategy. A reassessment and reset of relations is long overdue. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Wrote this article last year and still think about the Uxbridge backlash quite a lot. I think it summed up a lot of what was wrong with Starmer's Labour – and the benefits of Sadiq sticking by his guns are now clear to see. labourlist.org/2025/04/loca...

This stopped me in my tracks. An independent study by @qmul.bsky.social has found that after ULEZ was introduced, children’s lungs grew faster in Central London and have now caught up with children outside of the capital. Incredible.
