I think what the Mechanic has over most other Splatoon protagonists (aside from 8) is that after their journey is over they had something to show for it. they might be the only one to have gone through traumatizing events and still have plenty of money leftover to pay for therapy.

You don’t have to be selfless all the time or burn yourself out but you should be kind and helpful and compassionate to the best of your ability. We need to care about each other more
