Recently in class we were learning about Funds of Knowledge and discussing cultural connections in learning. We used Lotería as an example of cultural knowledge and tradition. A few days later, one of my students surprised me by sending this: “El Maestro.”

What are all the teachers who claimed to “love” and “care” for their immigrant students going to do when the students they supposedly “love” stop showing up because they’ve been detained or deported? What if ICE shows up at their school and pulls those students from their classrooms?

Welcome to the next four years. Republicans do horribly rightwing things to hurt people and move the Overton window even further right, while rightwing Democrats say 'Hey, can you let us join in and do it in a bipartisan fashion'. Kill me now.

13 Democratic senators, led by Mark Kelly, write a letter asking John Thune and Republicans to work with them on an immigration bill instead of doing it on party lines through reconciliation. Full 👇

Trump calling his efforts “manifest destiny” is no accident. It is meant to evoke memories of the violent removal of Indigenous peoples and Mexicans from their lands. His planned mass deportations are part of this plan.

Just finished Promises of Gold by José Olivarez, and wow—what a collection. His poetry hit hard, exploring love, grief, and generational trauma, while calling out systems like capitalism. It’s raw, real, and deeply relatable. Highly recommend the audiobook, especially with José reading it himself.

There is nothing wrong with trying to find a social media platform that connects you with people who share similar values to you. This is not a desire for an echo chamber. It is desire for a community.

I can tell you about getting sick because my mother was anti vaxx though. Whooping cough at 12 that stuck around for 6 months and stopped me from doing things I loved. Getting mumps and being really sick on vacation. Dad got it from us too, and was scarily sick. None of that was necessary.

I would love to tell you about the times vaccines prevented me from getting sick, but every time it happens, I don’t notice. I just keep feeling well. Neither do you. Public health, when it’s working, is invisible.
