I think everyone should see this incredible picture of Dolly Parton: it’s by Stacie Williams (asterosperma on Instagram) and it’s called The Queen of Appalachia

A stunning screenprint image in a style which is part folk art, part religious icon. Dolly Parton sits on a throne-like wooden chair, surrounded by garlands of flowers and leaves. Orange butterflies (I think they are monarchs?) hover around her head. Her hair is huge and golden, and she is wearing a long, sweeping orange gown, which is turned up over her knee to show off her brown knee length high heeled boots. Two black bear cubs play around her, one on the floor and one in her lap. Dolly stares calmly at the viewer. Her right hand is raised in benediction, and in her left she holds a ripe strawberry which she is feeding to one of the bear cubs.

Saw this bee covered in pollen, still going to all the flowers so I got a couple of quick shots. I really could do with some actual macro gear but this will do for now. 🐝

A day photo showing a bee covered in pollen, it has its tongue out.The same bee from a different position to see the pollen covering its body. Its on part of the trumpet vine.Another view of the same bee as it was covered in pollen. Little yellow dots of pollen are seen all over its body but not on its wings.

🧵Thread on the fascinating phenomenon that is the multi-species foraging flock: If different species are competing for finite resources, why would they band together like this? Research suggests that by doing so they enhance their chances of finding food, flushing out insects, and avoiding predators

I love when multi-species flocks of birds descend upon the garden to bathe, forage, spar, and frolic. Today was a record-breaker for number of bird species in the garden simultaneously: chickadees, juncos, sparrows, wrens, goldfinches, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, nuthatches, and grosbeaks!

Collage of nine photos of named birds, ranging from yellow and black goldfinches to red-breasted nuthatches and grosbeaks to grey-brown chickadees and sparrows, plus a small downy woodpecker with a red cap and an Anna’s hummingbird with a shimmering magenta throat.

Did u know?Heat & drought has signalled a new era in global heating. It's easy to feel helpless, but if we create more shade,we protect plants/wildlife/ourselves:group pots together to create moist microclimates;plant small trees;plant hedging;plant flowers at the edges of borders,to cover soil.🌱🌿🇬🇧🌱🌍
