It's a day of books today. Almost a month after the OG(H)AM project awarded its Og(h)am Achievement Award to "Carved in Stone. A Storyteller's Guide to the Picts", my copy arrived in the bookshop today. Wow! I can only say that this is a model of how to write a book about a pre-modern society. /1

Great to see the Guardian champion the SHAPE (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences) subjects, but this piece gives impression that they are expensive, whereas many are 'cheap to teach' subjects subsidising more expensive subjects, mainly in STEM and medicine. The crisis demands better understanding.

Found out yesterday that my job is at risk. Feels terrible: multiple video-only "consultations" without even a q and a... Humanities and social sciences overwhelmingly targeted... Whole thing feels deeply ideological and also like payback aimed at the departments with high union density...
