I‘m anti AI but if people maybe stopped complaining for a second and started building the internet they want I think the situation would be much simpler. This period in time confirmed that nothing is free or granted. Examples like indie web or the self-hosted communities are something to look after

Anyone in tech who isn't telling you how the internet is evil and almost everything and everyone should disconnect from it is trying to trick you into using the internet and then you will suffer from using the internet

I tell people at cons that to stick with drawing or any kind of art, you need two things: 1) have so much fun you can’t stop 2) train yourself to have a high frustration tolerance If you have 1 and not 2, you won’t improve. If you have 2 and not 1, it’s a miserable chore. Then I show them this:

A post by Youtube Journalist and Essayist Defunctland saying “I hate literally every step in the filmmaking process. The only thing I hate more than making a film is not making a film.”

Stupid, lazy people with delusions of competence have always existed, but ironically, genAI is tricking *them,* not any prospective backers. The average person browsing a KS category is probably a bit of a fanatic, deeper in the scene than the average consumer, and very unlikely to support AI.

You’re pushed on by numbers and punitive measures: pain, rejection, and unpaid bills. You can either play or you can crawl under a boat and waste away -- turn into salt or a flock of seagulls. Your enemies would love that. Or you can fight. The only way to load the dice is to keep on fighting.
