Only learned recently that this thing I’ve been calling Queen Anne’s Lace for most of my life is actually also called a “wild carrot.” Totally blew my mind. I didn’t eat it, but it *smells like a carrot*. There were hundreds, so I pulled one and washed off the dirt at the riverbank.  

The wild carrot lying on its side over some old bonfire with bits of charcoal, the point of the carrot is pointing to our right, and the green part is to the left. The carrot is slender, pale, almost like an off-white color and alongside the shaft of the main carrot, there are many roots that go out almost in right angles.

Now, the data that I have from the Historic, from the Historic Period indicates that the Bay de Noc region had a Chippewa Band that was associated with that area geographically, and some, there were times of the year when people from Mackinac area were on the northern, were on the northern shore of Lake Michigan; but there are tribal groups or bands that are associated with Bay de Noc and with Oak Point and with St. Ignace, those three points along the northern shore of Lake Michigan.

You’ll all be shocked to learn that the most comprehensive contemporary history of the 2nd Seminole War, written by a US Army veteran in 1848, tells a very similar story. An initial treaty was signed in 1832 by senior tribal leaders, with conditional requirements. 1/

After they were amended, they took the redlined versions back and found some people who could probably claim tribal affiliation who were then induced to sign the amended treaties and attest that they were doing so on behalf of this tribe or that band This is my understanding but yyyyeahhhhh

The complaint goes on to point out explicitly what I just said: there are no defenses (not even consent!), no safe harbor. None of the well-litigated exceptions to obscenity statutes like artistic or scientific value (cf. Miller v. California, 413 U.S. 15 (1973)) apply.

There is no safe harbor for good-faith efforts of the provider of general-purpose AI creative tools to avoid harms. Liability attaches even if the depicted persons consented—or created the image themselves—and even if the image is never shared. Liability also attaches even if the image has artistic, scientific, political, satirical, educational, medical, or religious value, and (again) even if the company has deployed near-perfect, state-ofthe-art technical controls to prevent the generation of nude images.

Man this is awful. This was a sincere question. I was happy with the discussion that came out of it. But I wake up this morning to nonstop abuse, because one of Bluesky’s cult-like figures has (pretty unfairly) attacked me as not understanding people need food. This isn’t good or sustainable!
