Human beings process information through narrative, through story. We think in stories, remember in stories, plan for the future in stories, worry in stories, dream in stories and connect with one another through stories. When we read to children we embody our deeply human birthright as storytellers

NASA has done a great job with this piece! Using multi-media (words, voice, video, imagery) to capture the science from the #ArtemisII mission. Just want to highlight that these in-situ observations, made by this diverse crew, really highlight the importance of diverse perspectives in science! 🔭

Have you been missing the moon joy from Artemis II? Here's a nice little reminder thanks to a NASA release of the science and data from the flight science.nasa.gov/feature/arte...

On October 7, 1959, Luna 3 gave us our first look at the far side of the Moon. Today, NASA released the preliminary science reports from Artemis II. Reposting my visual history of lunar far side exploration, which I wrote while watching Artemis II: 🗃️🔭 #histSTM invertingvision.com/2026/04/06/e...

Exploring the Far Side of the Moon: A Visual History

Lunar exploration has always held a strange position in the history of exploration. For all of human history, people have been staring up at the Moon, and for centuries astronomers used telescopes …

This report is interesting, but more than that it's so human. You see the handwritten notes the astronauts took, and read their immediate descriptive observations. Robotic exploration is so important, but there really is nothing quite like a person being there and seeing the moon with their own eyes

Three reports out today! • Preliminary Science Report – initial analysis of science data within the ten science themes chosen for this mission • Lunar Science Operations Report – how the science team worked across three rooms and 250,000 miles • Data User Guide – how to navigate PDS

It’s October 7, six months since the Artemis II mission, which means it’s time for the Lunar Science Team to release their initial reports and all that good science data! There’s five hours of science joy at the LSSW, and I’ll be sharing along the way. (All thoughts/opinions my own.)

The series of Lunar Surface Science Workshop (LSSW) short, focused virtual sessions will continue to solicit input from the community on the potential for new scientific research that could be enabled...

Today, on the anniversary of the 1st photo of the Moon's far side (in 1959 from the USSR's Luna 3 probe), NASA released the preliminary science report and data from the #ArtemisII mission in April. Re-live the #Moon joy: science.nasa.gov/feature/arte... 🧪🔭🌘

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The title of the article, which I link below, is "How Bear 89 earned the name Backpack"

Meet Backpack, your 2026 Fat Bear Week champion. Backpack is 20 years old, weighs about 1,000 pounds and got his nickname because, as a cub, he loved riding on his mom's back across the Brooks River.

A successful Earth flyby improves Juice’s course to Jupiter Earlier today, Juice flew just 8640 km above the Indian Ocean and snapped these images with its onboard monitoring cameras. 1️⃣Africa, by Juice monitoring camera 2️⃣Madagascar, by Juice NavCam 3️⃣Moon, by Juice NavCam 🔭 🧪 #planetsci

Mostly black space, most of Earth visible at the top right of the image. Part of a spacecraft visible on the left.Part of the island of Madagascar in black and white.A crescent Moon, with about a quarter of the Moon showing. Many craters are visible.

The @stsci.edu posted this JWST image from 2023 earlier today—and I had to do the same. This is only a portion (about 50 lightyears across) of the Milky Way's centre. In this view, there's an estimated half-million stars. In our night sky, at a dark site, humans can see ~2,000 stars unaided.

From the source: "In a field crowded with stars, a funnel-shaped region of space appears darker than its surroundings with fewer stars. It is wider at the top edge of the image, narrowing towards the bottom. Toward the narrow end of this dark region a small clump of red and white appears to shoot out streamers upward and left. A large, bright cyan-colored area surrounds the lower portion of the funnel-shaped dark area, forming a rough U shape. The cyan-coloured area has needle-like, linear structures and becomes more diffuse in the center of the image. The right side of the image is dominated by clouds of orange and red, with a purple haze."
