I think that might be the problem here, that cheap low-durability stuff no longer *looks* like cheap low-durability stuff, that good-looking surface finishes and design have become easy to produce and have worked their way down to lower-end consumer goods.
I read this story long before the pandemic, but it's forever associated with the pandemic for me now because in April 2020, my makeshift home desk was by a window overlooking an elevated train station, and I could see the trains come in, doors open to empty cars, no one get on or off, doors close

Max Dubler 🏳️🌈@maxdubler.com · 3d agoI think my most genuinely unpopular take is that a widely held and genuine consumer preference for cheaper, lower-quality goods, not private equity, is driving the decline in quality of consumer goods like clothing and housewares.
The antenna are important because you need somewhere to sit on and look moodily at the smoggy dystopia

I kinda' want this to be a thing. o.o Person gets bit, ends up a were-critter. They absolutely Love it... Right up until they revert to Human form. Then they're all cranky & whatnot. Just angry about not having a tail anymore or being way weaker/smaller as a Human. Always bring it up, too. = )

I’m not even sneering at Ellison. Just how we don’t understand posterity.
