seeing people defending Using Google Search over using AI for research as if opening google was some kind of Sacred and Moral Act that is worth going to battle for
my hot take is that there's not really an overbuilding of datacenters given the capabilities at hand and a crash would still be economically transformative because inference would be dirt cheap and even existing models are capable, with the proper tools, of totally changing daily life.

trans rights frankly is a top 5, potentially top 3 issue for me despite not being trans and not having any trans family being bigoted against trans folks not only hurts my trans friends and every trans person but is so predictive of further bigotry
haven’t seen the movie so i don’t have a strong opinion on emily wilson’s review of it (other than it was unnecessarily vicious in a couple of spots), but “i hated this and i hope many more things like it get made” is a very relatable opinion about art to me, lol
the cruelty of academics would be fine if people’s ability to make a living wasn’t on the line. so we enjoy it with hope for a beautiful world where people can be total shits to each other for fun

It’s one of the most toxic parts of academic culture. Not as bad as “if you really care about [x], you won’t worry about compensation,” but in the top five.

The article is misleading, but I think the reason they spread is because “the data center” has become a literary shorthand for the American AI industry, a physical embodiment of tech corporations that have aligned with the American government and military.
