This here is the most important thing about dog training: understand your dog’s emotional state and learn how to regulate it. This means learning to “read” your dog, and communicate to the extent that it is possible. Also build up their confidence so they can learn how to self regulate a bit.

(4) Not enough people understand that dog training is not simply making sure your dog understands commands like sit and stay; it’s about teaching the dog emotional regulation. Your dog is doing this shit because your dog is using destruction as a way to regulate their emotions.

I will be at #FantasyCon again this year, and this time I am moderating two panels, participating in another and doing a reading! Signed copies of my book will be available at the BFS table too, while stock lasts! A small thing I am excited about, however, is a short story I submitted for...

Talk about your book to people, they won't know your book exists if you don't tell them. Today I was chatting with a friend of my wife I see walking my dog multiple times a week, and she asked me if she could read my book. Turns out, she didn't know I released it two months ago #BookSky #IndieAuthor

When you get a good editor, it's like being gently guided by a an experienced mountaineer over a deadly crevasse, and it's such a great feeling, knowing both trust each other When you get a bad one, it's like the mountaineer is saying, 'if you don't do things my way, I'll push you off the cliff.'

What's especially crazy to me in this sentiment (which I also had pre bluesky) is how much every other artistic field lauds indies. Indie filmmaking? Good. Indie music? Good. Indie books? Suddenly people draw a line, even though all the reasons Indie is good everywhere else *still apply*.

I am convinced 90% of Mr Beast's book preorders were people that bought it to talk about it on social media. I understand, we all hate that it's a thing that happened. Best thing you can do is ignore it. Don't talk about it, don't mention it, just move on and let it vanish into oblivion. #BookSky

My first review in Spanish from Netgalley! My best translation is: "I have to say that it surprised me. I was expecting something similar to Harry Potter, but it is nothing like it. This is adult academia with a deep plot. " (they read the book in English, no translations yet unfortunately) #BookSky

Text for a review in Spanish of my book. It reads as "Tengo que decir que me sorprendió. Por una parte, esperaba una especie de Harry Potter o algo así, pero nada que ver. Estamos ante una ficción de academia adulta, con una gran profundidad argumental"

To support an indie author the most important thing you can do is to talk about their book online. Our biggest issue is discoverability. Every reddit/bluesky/etc post, every YouTube/instagram/tiktok video, they are worth much more than sales when you are unknown [continue]. #AuthorSky #BookSky

First month of sales for The Shape of Magic! 94 sales total which I take as a success for an unknown indie author with no meaningful social media presence. It includes preorders, which were most of the wide distribution sales, with 41 paperback preorders via IngramSpark) #AuthorSky #BookSky

pie chart of sales for my book in the first month. Amazon: 30 sales and 31.9%, Kobo: 20 sales and 21.3%, wide distribution: 44 sales and 46.8%

I really like this review, and the reason I am not showing how many stars it has is because I find review scores to be one of the dumbest inventions humanity ever cursed the Cosmos with, and the reason God has long abandoned us to wander the infinite void of space, deprived of His once eternal love.

Screenshot of a Netgally review, not showing the number of stars. The text of is: "I recieved this book as an ARC through Netgalley and was really looking forward to picking it up. I enjoyed the dynamic between the main 3 friends and how they relied upon each others skills and talents to build and learn towards finding the conduits.

I did find the beginng half of the book quite slow but the second half I flew through, unable to put it down.

I thought the ending was a little rushed but if didnt take away from the book as a whole. I would read more books by this author in the future."

I don't have numbers for kobo plus yet, but I will say that the fact that 1) they are not exclusive and 2) have a promotion system that does not require you to be exclusive or even be on kobo plus makes them an absolute no brainer for indie authors that don't want to be on KU.

I've been listening to the podcast and just want to point out Kobo plus as an alternative to Kindle Unlimited! Lots of indie authors have moved over to here: www.kobo.com/en/p/kobo-pl...
