On Saturdays, I make my coffee and then wander around the garden with my shears. I deadhead the roses, clear out old branches, and cut a couple blooms that are just opening up. These are my Eden Climbers, and last a solid week after being picked!

Three pink roses that fade to blush on the outer petals. The cut roses are sitting in a white vase on a teak table.

Anyway, the extremely young person who just failed to sell me my first new phone in eight years called me both bro and big dog in the process of realizing he didn't actually have the phone in stock, so I'm off to become a tree

Spent yesterday removing a Choisya and replacing it with a more native Manzanita cultivar. Changes like this always scare me because it makes things look temporarily bare. Making changes like this has to be thought through. I liked the Choisya because it was evergreen and bloomed. But

There's a song sparrow in my yard that I've been watching closely for months. Over a year ago, they'd been attacked by a predator. They were hopping along with a missing tail and a slightly bent wing that looked injured but not broken. I made sure the feeder was up since the plants weren't fully

The cool thing about weightlifting is that when I garden I can see how much easier and lighter tasks get. Every week, month, year I have repeatable chores I have to do and the stuff I have to move around keeps getting lighter. Such a cool feeling.

a very cool thing about this teaser / intro / ident for The Full Stack is that we shot the whole thing practically. the only computer graphics in this are "AWS presents" and "a CodeTV production" — everything else was made entirely with colored light, cut plexiglass, and a camera

I'm working on a zine project and when I started I thought to myself, this is going to be so short, no problem. I'm now 35 pages in and only about half done. I've made a huge mistake but also have come too far to quit.

Some in progress mise en place bowls. I did two on the wheel and one through hand building and I’m pretty happy with their texture out of the bisque fire.

Three small white porcelain mise en place bowls. The bowls are sitting in a wooden table top with a rolling pin and small vases in the background.
