Another Episcopalian Socialist in Chicago. I see crowds of people, walking round in a ring.

At a meeting about possibly combining to one weekly service, the 8am Rite I people didn't want to lose this prayer. The 10am Rite II people didn't know it. So one of the 8am-ers said, "We do not presume..." and they all recited the prayer from memory. A beautiful moment I hope I never forget. ⚓

We do not presume to come to this thy Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies.

Sometimes a small detail in a painting has as much or even more impact than the complete work itself ~ here’s the totally bereft Mary Magdalene lamenting the death of Christ, in a corner of Giottino di Pietro (aka Giottino)’s Pietà of San Remigio (1365) Uffizi, Florence

The tower blocks the council put up in the 1960s only took a decade till they were so haunted, no-one wanted to live in them. It weren't just the broken lifts, the smell of piss in the stairwells, it was the ghosts that did for people. Spirits turned mean by the towers' design. Liv Green #VOH

“Death is the last weapon of the tyrant, and the point of the resurrection, despite much misunderstanding, is that death has been defeated. Resurrection is not the redescription of death; it is its overthrow and, with that, the overthrow of those whose power depends on it.”

Vida Scudder: “Socialism is the only effective way at this stage of social evolution of practicing human fellowship, and so reaching fellowship with God.” — The Church and the Hour (1917), Chapter IV.

My MAGA focus group felt betrayed by tariffs, high gas prices, and inflation. I asked if there was any way Republicans could win back their support, and they replied only if they could prove that the pain had fallen harder on Black people.
