In your article, you mentioned a graphic "Only You Can Prevent Data Centers"- that you thought was made by AI. It wasn't, it was made by me, an artist that is very much against AI. In fact, I turned it into a shirt and raised money for a local arts education nonprofit in Chicago.

I'd much rather have my "I always hated ____" bonafides validated with like "Their new album/movie/book was widely panned," than "They started a VC enterprise that gutted multiple beloved magazines/blogs and took jobs from a ton of good people." This sucks.

Over my 20 years of being a fairweather music journo and record store guy, I had pleasant run-ins with both these mugs. There's a part in this article where Ian is talking about how great it was to do a project with his best friend that made me tear up. Hard not to envy a friendship like that.

Ian MacKaye and Henry Rollins

"Neither Rollins nor MacKaye is getting paid for their work. 'It just seemed like, Wow, what a gift! What a gift to be able to A) spend that kind of intimate time with [the Cramps's] music, B) have a project to do with Henry, who’s my best friend,' MacKaye said."

I don't even know what to say. This is real, this is true, so, like, thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. This took over 25 years to happen so if there's any lesson here it's either "keep at it, who knows" or "many people are divorced"

Many fascinating tidbits, such as: "Paramount Records, the label responsible for much of Rainey’s recorded output, was a subsidiary of the Wisconsin Chair Company. It produced records largely to sell phonographs, with little regard for audio quality, pressing them onto cheap shellac. "

"Rainey’s voice was powerful enough that when she hit her loudest notes, the grooves distorted. 'The first time people played these songs on a Victrola with a heavy steel needle,' Benson said, 'it’d skip right past them.'" Ma Rainey Comes Alive on New Release (gift link):

This day in history. 1980. At an Eagles concert in Long Beach Glenn Frey and Dan Felder argued furiously with Frey announcing after each song how many songs remained before he would kick Felder's ass. After the final song Felder smashed a guitar, climbed into a limo, and took a 14 year break.
