Today is something called AI Appreciation Day (wut) and I’m seeing apocalyptic photos across my timeline of wildfire smoke coloring the skies orange and gray, so here’s the Against AI and Its Environmental Harms library one more time:

Bad air coming, Minnesota. Limit time outside tomorrow and Thursday. How are we getting vulnerable people inside? Cooling centers, Hennepin: www.hennepincounty.gov/services/ass... Ramsey: www.ramseycountymn.gov/residents/em...
This is the link to make a comment about the proposed OMB rule change. This rule change does many things, most most centrally it effectively moves the power of the purse from the legislative to the executive branch. www.regulations.gov/document/OMB... This is incredibly dangerous.

A brilliant 🧵. Please do read. I particularly loved “Of course LLM products have an address. It's a corporate address.” A wonderful unmasking of the faux-neutrality underlying tech exceptionalism. Google, channeling Barlow, has long claimed to be “everywhere & nowhere.” But Google has an address!
He kept coming back, repeatedly (in the way AI often loops) to this idea of AI (specifically Claude) representing "a position without an address", and it became increasingly clear to me that there was some odd mystification happening. Of course LLM products have an address. It's a corporate address.
Generative AI is a tool designed to break labor, but to break some laboring groups harder than others
When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.
There was some one outside the federal courthouse today holding a sign: Arrest Jonathan Ross, Jesus Ochoa and Raymundo Gutierrez. Let’s keep that front and center, journalists.
It is hard, as a Minnesotan, to see the resources expended on the arrests and charges here and at Cities Church while officers who shot and killed our community members continue to walk free. To know that immigration enforcement has billions of dollars while folks in community struggle to pay rent.
This will continue as long as there are no consequences for them.
Potentially up to 15 legal observers in Minneapolis have been arrested so far today. 06.16.2026 PLEASE SEND THIS TO YOUR COMRADES DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR
Navigating the balance between autonomy and consistency is a huge piece of my job and I really appreciate Christian's take on why both matter and the issues with going too far in either direction.
Well, debating teacher autonomy versus teaching consistency is all the rage on LinkedIn, apparently. But when a well balanced post is written, hardly anyone reads it. People still want one-sided hot takes, it seems. christianmooreanderson.com/the-problem-...

It’s truly astonishing to see how comprehensively the US government is tearing down every part of the system that has made it up until now a world-leading power in science, research, and technological development. The entire world will suffer from this wanton destruction.
White House proposes new rules giving political appointees final approval of research grants These proposed Office of Management and Budget regulations would render the federal research grant review process opaque www.scientificamerican.com/article/whit...
The times that a trans student has come out to me as a part of their self-discovery are sacred to me at a time when little else is. This is an abominable and unenforceable fascist tactic.
BREAKING: The House of Representatives just voted to require teachers to forcibly out transgender youth against their will. Censoring "gender ideology" does nothing to advance the basic promise that every child deserves the same opportunity to thrive, and that includes transgender students.
This is also a very clear demonstration of how "we'll pretend it's over and the weirdos can just mask" and, more generally, relying on masks as a long-term solution individualizes a problem that should be addressed structurally. Masks are NOT, actually, universally accessible. Clean indoor air is.*
I have horrifically severe TMJ and jaw arthritis. To the point I haven't eaten solid food in over three years. I can only wear adhesive N95s and even they can bother me. I still mask.

Just in case you don't realize it, AI sucks.
‘Covid ‘only’ kills the sick the old and the vulnerable’ presented as a net positive is not restricted to RFK jr. And I’m sure I will be unpopular for pointing that out.
RFK Jr. showing his eugenicist beliefs. Here he is today at The City Club in Cleveland: "The average American who died from COVID had 3.8 chronic diseases. So what was really killing them? It was almost impossible for COVID to kill a healthy person. It was killing people who were already sick."
And for the teachers in the room, no, your “teacher voice” does not substitute a microphone.
Conference friends: My voice is very loud. Almost certainly louder than yours. I always use the microphone during a conference presentation so that everyone can clearly hear me. And you should too.
If you are worried your town is next - start organizing now. Make connections. Talk with five neighbors. Start those signal groups for your school or neighborhood. And know that every bit of organizing you do now will pay off tenfold when ICE comes to your community. 2/2
This is a multigenerational sin that isn’t really reparable

Detained by ICE, he missed multiple cancer treatments. Now he’s in hospice.
Some immigrants with chronic health problems were swept up by ICE in Minnesota, leading to missed medications and, for one man, missed chemotherapy sessions.

speaking from minnesota, weird to see anyone asking about where are student protests in the wake of the most effective protest movements of my lifetime, one that included so so so many college students but not as /college/ protests.
Struggling with this a whole lot, personally. Where do we direct this energy? How do we pivot? I’m taking cues from what leaders of immigration organizations are doing. Mirac and Mn8 featured in this piece.
Community organizers, legal groups and lawmakers are seeking financial and legal tools to help the hardest-hit communities while cautioning that the Trump administration’s heightened immigration enforcement will continue. Written by @ncsscibelli.bsky.social
The past few months have brought out enough Minnesota pride that it's been tough to find state flags or flag poles (unless they come with American flags), but I finally got mine
I'm interested in a short article/video/other resource for teachers interested in learning about using "for every" slope statements. Anyone have something they like? #iTeachPhysics
I've been saying it a lot, but these deaths line up with what happened in early concentration camps during other regimes: Deaths from poor conditions, disease, or abuse. These deaths are not accidental. They are the direct result of a camp system that is designed to harm those being imprisoned.
I received notification of yet another death at an ICE facility, meaning 38 people have died in custody since Trump returned to office. ICE is failing to ensure the health and safety of the people it is responsible for. We need immediate oversight of this entire operation.
