does anyone know of any work that’s been done on career trajectories of (UK humanities) academics who have been made redundant? eg information about how many go into school teaching, early retirement, independent research? appreciate this is complex, sensitive and much data is too recent

Three years ago there was a dearth of insects in the garden; but now they have returned in force! This Purple Loosestrife is covered in (not so easily spotted ;-) pollinators.

Any Tory or ex Tory who says anything about criminal justice should be shamed for doing nothing about it during 14 yrs of government.

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

Sorry but unless you, as a media outlet, have managed to get someone from the Navy (probably a former sailor because those currently serving maybe disbarred from commenting) to explain that this is extremely unlikely to happen for legal reasons, then, arguably, you haven't really done your job.

Politics latest: Reform wants to use Navy to stop small boats after Burnham vows to be 'relentless' in tackling crossings

Glad someone senior from the sector is pushing back. Labour MPs need to understand the serious real anger from graduates and the people who produce them. And the dangerous financial situation they have allowed to fester, or indeed worsened, in one of Britain’s leading sectors.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

The Modern World’s take on an Ancient myth raises ethical issue, as this poster proves. (See: The Guardian, July 16th for an update on this situation.)

Oil companies make a killing out of war - but at the heart of this is ‘casino capitalism’ - we don't pay for oil and gas on a cost plus basis, a price linked to what it costs to produce - we pay the ‘market price’.

My mother had Alzheimer's, and it lasted a decade. That wilderness she descended into was made far worse by a state that essentially said "good luck" and "goodbye" having to navigate care and selling her house and worrying that we'd run out of money to finance it all. If anyone can fix it, good.
