I don’t think anything “finances” Rowling (compound interest from being a billionaire takes care of that), but it’s embarrassing to be associated with such an obvious bigot. You tie yourself in knots trying to explain, and the answer is just, “I like money more than trans people.”

Rewatched The Odyssey, and as someone semi-frequently praised for her dialogue, I strongly disagree the dialogue in this movie is bad. It rarely goes beyond functional, but it doesn’t need to be more than that. A richly poetic script would throw off the film’s equilibrium.

I’ve heard pres. Trump had to be smuggled off his airplane in a garbage bin because he was scared and crying about Muslom terrists? Everyone was telling him no sir, theres too much garbage in there but he said well i like that, and made them lift him up put him in and cover him with wet bread??

Starting to read the Zuckerberg essay and this is SUCH a weird/clunky passage. They absolutely paid some consultant to sort through “types of philosophy,” and he’s just declaring which categories he selected.

We propose a philosophy based on individual empowerment as the source of prosperity, invention as the primary purpose of superintelligence, and balance of power as the foundation of safety.

Starting to think the whole of the UK should be quarantined from the rest of the world like in 28 Weeks Later until they get their transphobia sorted out.

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON S3 wasn’t perfect, but it felt like the first season that had a distinct identity from GAME OF THRONES rather than trying to echo that series. I’m eager to see how it wraps up.

This by CNN is genuinely reprehensible. Everyone involved should be embarrassed. -The 'new pain' case vs Mamdani is *solely* his religion. -He was in NYC on 9/11, at grade school -Soon after attack GWB himself gave famous speech warning against blaming all Muslims for terrorism -25 yrs later, this.

Twenty-five years after the mayor of New York City became the champion of America's grief and resilience at the time of the 9/11 attacks, families of those killed are split on whether the current mayor should attend the annual remembrance. https://cnn.it/4zkKYdc

Blanche was confirmed as AG. Just a reminder: The last time a president appointed an attorney he had personal ties to, was when Nixon appointed his law partner and campaign manager John Mitchell. Mitchell ended up disbarred and spent 2 yrs in prison for his role as AG protecting Nixon.

I know this has been pointed out many times by many people but I just want to reiterate: Anthropic is basically using Kurt Vonnegut's drawing of an asshole as the Claude logo

[James Stewart as Odysseus] now listen here, Agamemnon, I'm going home, y'see. You keep your fancy armour, I'm getting off this crummy ol' beach. [Spotting the Cyclops] now here's a curious fella, he's only got one peeper

If Mamdani didn’t go he’d get yelled at for shirking his duties as the mayor of New York. If he went he’d get yelled at for being Muslim and being where he’s not wanted. He can never win in any scenario, that’s how the game is played when you are a bigot

I've no desire to watch the Sex Purge movie, but the ungloving scene in Scorsese's THE AGE OF INNOCENCE or so much of Wong Kar-wai's work shows that you can make movies without nudity or sex sensual, romantic, and horny as all hell too. A lot of modern mainstream movies just feel glossily insensate.

Still from The Age of Innocence, showing a close-up of hands--a white man's, gently, barely touching a white woman's set on the lap of a dark red dress.
